Are those specially shaped lines, or could one just use fuel line for that? I know the heater core VSV lines are shaped specifically.

Also, did you do your PCV or spark tube seals?

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!
They are formed lines (OEM) but I've seen people use non-formed lines to replace them. You'd just have to be careful to make them a length that wont kink.

Has anyone used a PLX multigauge to monitor transmission temperature?

1998 is one of those oddball years that doesn't report transmission temperature for some reason. Was on 1999 and up.

I did the spark tube seals. Kind of tough to get out but they needed to be done. If you have to pull the camshaft on the exhaust side make sure to put a bolt through the scissor gear so you don't need to preload it again.

I'm using silicone hose but I've relocated some of the VSVs around to make more room for other things. I think they would be fine for most things. Not sure if they're safe to use with coolant though.

The multiguage app is incredibly buggy. I was under the impression it could only read afr and boost. I could be wrong.

Oh man, why would I need to pull the camshaft - is that for checking the clearances on the valves?

If they are out of spec it's easier to get the shim out. I think they make a sst to do it with it the cams in there. It sounds a little overwhelming but it's really not. I have a pretty detailed fsm for the 3rz I can send you if you want.

I have the paper Toyota FSM for my truck, thank you though.

I'll have to see what's up when the valve cover comes off.

A bunch of the same stuff everybody else has already done.
Anxiously awaiting suspension parts to arrive and still undecided on tires so...I was Itchin’ to do work on the truck today and for $35 this was worth the time and money. Plasti-dipped my grill, mirrors, handles, and bumper because these LTDs come with too much chrome if you ask me. I’m mostly Pleased with the results, I may even do the emblems too? Thoughts?

On the drivers side between the diff and front crossmember. Wouldnt bust through with me hammering on a screwdriver so I hosed it down with Fluid Film. Guess time will tell.

Think of doing that soon. If you don't mind, how much did all the parts come out to? And did you use OEM parts?

Calipers are not oem, I got them orileys. I did end up powder coating them and also got stainless steel lines, so it all came out quite a bit. But if you just buy everything and slap it on it should be little under $600

You should be able to get the whole kit for the conversion for under $400 if I remember right, there have been kits posted on here many times. @turbodb has a good write up on it with the parts and everything.

Main thing is though you want to be sure your current wheels will clear the Tundra size calipers, 17" wheels should no problem but only certain 16" wheels will.

Do you have pics from the sides? Something doesn't add up or make sense, just looks like you stacked multiple lifts/brackets on top of each other. Just curious not knocking your lift, just wondering how you achieved what you did.

Here's a write-up with all the parts and tools needed. I went OEM after doing a bunch of research on differences between the options. These are brakes after all, and you're installing bigger brakes to get better braking. So, makes sense to go with the highest quality & biggest surface area you can...otherwise, what's the point?

Write-up of installation here, and a comparison of OEM vs. non-OEM parts here.
