Today was Fish Creek Wash and Split Mountain Road...First up were the Elephant Knees. This amazing formation was created over millions of years - its sedimentary layers deposited as part of the Sea of Cortez (Gulf of California) and prehistoric Lake Cahuilla (the precursor to the Salton Sea). And, like any sea-based sedimentary formation, the Elephant Knees are littered with fossils. From corals, clams, crabs, and shrimp to sharks, rays, and baleen whale - numerous fossils can be found in vast quantities in this area. In fact, vast quantities of oyster shells are what make up the slightly harder layers of sediment - slower to erode as the soft mud above and below wash away, these layers have become the "knees" of the formation...

...we were a little worried about something else entirely: the longer we were on the tracks, the more likely we were to encounter a representative from the railroad. Rumor has it that this rail line is now used by migrants trying to enter the USA from Mexico, and so is randomly patrolled. And, as a narrow swath of private land running through Anza-Borrego, the rail company has apparently decided that the best way to reduce liability is to keep everyone off the tracks - by issuing hefty tickets to anyone they find along the line.

Whether that was true or not, we didn't really want to find out...

    Finally, we found it!

We took it all in. We enjoyed every minute. It had been a true Indiana Jones style adventure - one where we'd known what we were looking for, but not where to find it. One of those rare places that the Internet alluded to but never actually divulged the exact location. And in the end, I think that's what makes it so special...

And we captured it all in Anza-Borrego Part 6 - Finding Blue Sun Cave

... we were keen to see what was at the end of Sheep Canyon, and so we pushed on. As it turns out, what's at the end of Sheep Canyon is a campground - and, at least on this day, a full one at that! Disappointed, we made our way through the small loop and noticed a white first gen Tacoma camped in the very last spot - as far from anyone else as possible. "Nice first gen," the owner said as we drove by. "Back at you." replied @mrs.turbodb as we started back down the way we'd come. It was 2:30pm and we were now unsure what we were going to do for our last night in Anza-Borrego. We stopped along the side of the road and started looking at our maps...

Little did we know what was about to happen. It's a small TacomaWorld, I tell you!

Those Bruder trailers are next level honey badger caravans. But honestly this whole "overland truck" thing is as close as I ever want to get to the RV/ Caravan lifestyle. If I wanted to bring a second house into the woods, I'd just buy a plot of land and build a small cabin.

Seeing all the people crammed into a tiny RV park right next to Moab town limits just blows my mind. All you can hear all night is generators running.

My little glamper does just fine and the perfect size. Still have the RTT as well as a topper depending on the type of travel I'll be doing

Yeah, those teardrop-ish size trailers are pretty cool. But I personally don't want to have to haul my house to a scenic spot. That said, if you do a lot of basecamp style outings, then it totally makes sense. I tend to be more of the waypoint style on the move every day type.

Here is my setup... recently found a swing out Freedom Grill FG50 on craigslist for a killer deal. Love it, really well built and will serve as my camp site grill from now on.

Also- For anyone looking to add a super small but legal 3rd brake light (if the RTT or rack is blocking yours)... check out the Poison Spyder 41-04-406. Super easy to install and wire up behind one of the taillights. Just bent it down a tiny bit so it doesn't touch the tailgate when opening.

...After catching our breaths and with our stomachs satisfied, it didn't take long for us to look for just the right place to try to capture Druid Arch. With the sun behind it, we weren't sure if we could even capture the grandeur, but we experimented with various exposures and settings and hoped for the best.

My guess is that when nature looks like this, it's hard to end up with something unusable.

Read it all and check out the photos in Ruining Around Utah 2 - Don't Miss Druid Arch

Yeesh, thing is 4365lbs dry and 22'. I love glamping with an offroadable travel trailer (something with all the comforts of home). But 22' and 4365lbs dry is NOT what I consider offroadable.

This 19' 3000lb dry trailer was good enough for $13,500.

    A Trailmanor 2619 for $11k was a nice bugger.

I have a little 1200 pound trailer I tow around.

My brother sells Trailmanors in Englewood. Also different models of these which are 22' and 3k pounds. Towed this one back from an RV show for him

An offroadable travel trailer is your base camp and nice to have. So nice to have the comforts of home, but finding one that suits is difficult.

Teardrop isn't comfortable enough for me. Absolutely is a great offroader. As always, there's about 4000 different ways to get out and about exploring.

Which model is the Winny 19'? That's a nice weight and the price is in the ball park.
