Oh you mean 88 pages of the thread. Every truck is different. I think a non lifted 2nd gen would rub. I have 2" lift and a perfect alignment and I am within a mm of rubbing.

Correct, thats not much space. Guess I’ll have to consider a lift or just keep the 265s. Thank you

You left out some key details.

    1) What size tires are you hoping to run (check the first post, there’s more than one size tire that could be considered a ‘skinny’)?
    2) What are the specs (size/offset/BS) of the wheels you intend to use?

    1. Whichever dont require a lift or triming.

    2. By this question i take it that i cant use the stock ones? Currently have 265/70r17 tires. Was hoping to just get new tires

I put 255/75/r17 on my 2013 stock with no problems. That was on the stock sport rims. Just put on SEMA rims and the offset from 25mm to 4mm gave me a rub, but only in reverse, cranked to one side, with a bump from my driveway on that little front flap/air damn. They are coming off this weekend.

255/75/17 is likely as big a skinny as you’ll be able to go with no rubbing. 3rd gens can run 255/85/16 on stock suspension, when coupled with stock 3rd gen off-road wheels. I can’t confirm for 2nd gens.

My wheel question wasn’t meant to imply anything. Just necessary information to provide accurate answers. Stock wheels typically play better with skinnies due to the less aggressive offset/backspacing.

235/85 16 fit within the wheel wells without any trimming or rubbing if that helps you. Very good for snow.

generally you want wider tires in sand.....you'll be fine with these as long as you air down enough, but inch for inch a wider tire will do better because it'll help you float on the sand

only way to know for sure is to try them and see if they're good enough for you

It does improve the look/ honestly I would go 285's if I didn't think it would rub. - the new bumper gives full reveal of the 235's which look better with the OEM bumper on. It still looked better than I thought with CBI bumper -at least better than the picture.

For the truely serious... a slightly taller alternative that will surely require wheel well work... but oh the traction they provide. Trimming will begin soon on my 3rd gen. The Interco Super Swamper SSR has a true 35" tire (advertised at 35.3") with 10.5" section width and 9" tread width. Comes in 16" and 17" wheel sizes.

I ran SSR’s on a 2003 Tracker I used to wheel. They are fantastic tires off road and on the street I felt they were very equal to the older dick cepek mid countries I had on my reg cab Tacoma! They’re a solid 3/4 inch taller than the majority of 35’s on the market also!!

Yes, yes! I too have run radial, as well as bias ply, Swampers in the past. Fantastic tires... the largest downfall is that occasionally one comes along that is tough to balance.
