Yeah I've used butcher paper before. I prefer no wrap but was in a perceived time crunch and crutched it. I do prefer paper over foil, but wanted to be able to retain the juices afterwards. Paper soaks em up.

I hear ya on the last part. I just judge myself harshly. But I am still really happy with this cook!

Yup. Agree on that. Rings just chemical reactions. But we eat with our eyes first. And we all secretly want that ring... Which is why I temp control stage and spritz a little . Doesn't hurt that it's there

Thanks for the compliments. Means a lot from you. :fistbump:

Correct or not bbq is judged by the masses on that smoke ring. I always smile when people say you can’t get the ring on a pooper. :)

Hell with if it ain’t there just get some Red Dye #40.

I do think getting a heavy smoke ring is easier on a stick burner. Only cooked once on a pellet rig but Zach did all the work on it.

Damn right our eyes take the first bite! I strive for the ring, too.

You're right about that. Stick burners create an environment VERY rich in nitric oxide, so they are quite conducive to a good smoke ring.

Not sure about fake'n a smoke ring but I know you can kinda fake barque.

2 Tblsp. ea. of light soy & kitchen bouquet, combined with 1 teasp. Dry Mustard. Brush it on before you feel defeated. I've only done it a couple times & both times I couldn't sleep after but it did turn out. :bananadead:

I honestly think when the smoke ring is light on a pooper it’s the pellets. The pellets with a lot of filler wood don’t give a good ring. The better the pellet the better the cook in my eyes.

We should make a giant pooper from the gravity feed design. :)

Likely some gismo you put on the grill & use once before it gives up & you throw it away but yet affects generations down the line bc of some weird toxicity.

You can easily fake a ring, add in a bit of pink cure salt to your rub and watch what happens, even in an oven.
