Pedal recall done but turned down for spring TSB!

I just got the pedal shaved and the ECU flashed, but was turned down for the rear leaf spring TSB....I was told that it only applies to 4X4 models and I have a pre-runner. They said it was within spec. I'm gonna call more dealerships on the leaf spring TSB. Also wondering if the ECU flash for the pedal recall should cover the transmission TSB as well....thanks for any input!

They were wrong it aplys to pre runners too. Take in a copy of the tsb and show it to them.

 

I'd report that dealer and service rep to Toyota for not following through the documented procedure and providing poor customer service.

The transmission reflash is a separate deal from the pedal/throttle flash recall.

 

FWIW, make sure the service writter doesn't just write up that you want it done because you heard/know about it. Tell them you were hauling some stuff for your yard and your bumpstops were hitting the frame hard. Hence the harsh ride and why you need the fix

 

take some white paint and paint 4X4 on the mudflaps, the dealers are so stupid they wouldn't know any better

 

get a buddy to get in the bed with you.

the two of you just need to jump up and down to get a few marks on the bump stops.

tell the dealer that when you put your 403 lb wet weight quad in the bed, the suspension kept bottoming out on your way to the woods.

They'll do the tsb work.

So are they looking for marks when assessing the vehicle? I did tell them about carrying a load and bottoming out with the harsh ride....I plan on calling other dealers.....any dealers in the Houston area that did the TSB?

I have a 4x2 and they did mine, but it took 2 trips to dealer. Explain to the dealer about the "Harsh Ride When Loaded".

Mine was hitting the bump stops at about 500 lbs. before the TSB. Now I can do maximum and still have room on the bump stops.

IMO, without the TSB being done, it is really a "safety issue when the truck is only 1/2 loaded".

I do not get why a dealership service dept would balk at the Spring TSB...or any TSB.

Toyota pays the dealership to do the work. WTF?

Service writer ego to be exact. God forbid some truck owner actually has real knowledge about their truck.

So...the key seems to be: POLITICS.

Yes, you gotta play it just right in many cases. Make the service writer feel HE is the smart one and you are just some stupid jug head who owns a 30 thousand dollar truck.

I casually asked about it at the dealership service dept when I was at the parts dept picking up a bed mat...the service writer said, and I quote: "Oh, that's only for the older Tacoma's...yours is a 2010...you are good to go, man"

So I played stoopid and said Okey-dokey, and walked away.

When I go back with TSB in hand...I'll 1st play the "bump stop" and "rough ride" cards...then if his ego is bigger than his brain...I pull the trump card out TSB BABY...documented right cheer in black & white.

Of course, I would like to build a good working relationship with my service writer...but if he proves to be a Richard Cranium...Oh well. I'll have to own the situation and do what I gotta do.

when i went that is exactly what the service manager was looking for.

before i went :

i put my dogs in the bed ( 150 lbs x 2) then i hopped up there ( 220 lbs) and started jumping.

Went in there and told them BS about my quad. service manager looked at the bump stops and said " oh there is a tsb for that, we'll order the parts and call you."

 

1st service advisor I talked to did everything in his power to make me go away. When I came back for the front driveshaft inspection, I dealt direct with the service manager. He waived it right through. Try to work with the manager.

 

I have a prerunner and they did mine. I had to educate them about the TSB, they played stupid. Print the TSB and take it with you, you can show them the exact place where it says your truck is covered.

 

I'm in the stealership now. They ran my vin and the only recall/tsb coming up is the gas pedal recall.

 

TSB's do not "come up" via VIN.

 

I like this idea the best.

 

Really? How do I convince them to replace the leaf springs then?

 

The easiest is to print out the latest rev of the TSB, bring it in to show your truck is covered in the list. Also with some dealers you may need to put weight in the back to prove to them it's weak (sadly some don't take your word).

 

I got the pedal recall done and it took care of the transmission. As for the TSB I emailed Toyota and told them about the bad experience I had at the dealer trying to get it done and they hooked me up. Just waiting on the parts.
