With Windows I couldn't help you. With Linux, there's probably more info you could get from it.

This is what I'm running right now.

Figured I'd put it here instead of bogging up @Bot_Chu 's sale thread.

Looking to get this as a new case.

Also looking to upgrade mobo/CPU/RAM at some point since my current mobo is old as balls.

Wait for summer, the Ryzen 3000 series is coming and if the leaks are any indication it’s going to catch up to Intel on instructions per clock but offer twice the core count, PCI-E 4.0, and a cheaper price than the i9/i7/i5

Finally got around to playing with it. And you called it exactly! One of the read head pin guides somehow got brokw (or just wore out) so the reader would sometimes go correctly and sometimes just hit the platter.

And thats as far as I care to go with it. Found a parts drive for cheap but meh have to many other projects

Hey guys, I need some recommendations for a cheap-ish desktop.
My primary computer is my Macbook Pro which I love but I need a windows desktop for certain programs like my cobra tuning software.

My mini HP desktop is pushing 6-7 years old and ever since it auto updated to windows 10 it turned into a pile of crap. Constantly freezes and restarts to the main desktop but all the icons are blank until I hit the windows button.
I only use the desktop for spotify/itunes , printing an email here or there and uploading tunes to my programmer.

We have some of the Intel NUCs at work and they seem pretty cheap and speedy enough to do what I am going to be doing with it. Just looking for recommendations.
Not looking to build my own, just looking for a basic buy it and plug it in desktop.

    Any tips appreciated !

    Yeah.
One of the small units from Dell is probably good enough for what you need. A Core i5, 16GB memory, and a 256GB SSD is probably all you need. Looks like around $700.

Here's a recent build I just did, replacing my previous main workstation.

    8700k
    Vengeance RGB pro 32GB @3200
    Aorus Pro mobo
    RTX 2080 Ultra XC
    NVMe M.2 X8200 Pro 1TB
    NVMe M.2 X8200 Pro 512GB
    Kraken X62
    H500i
    Supernova 80+ Gold 850W PSU
+2 old 240GB XPG SSD's for scratch disks and about 8TB you don't see

Edit: on a somewhat desktop related note last night I put together a sit-stand desk, this thing is awesome. Gotta train yourself to really be upright at times but that was the intent. Battlestation coming together.

Aesthetic and the Corsair case is a bit big. Fractal looks like it'll be nicer as far as cable management goes, as well.

I'm really looking forward to it.

Damn. I’m getting random crashes right now that seem to include a flicker of my RGB components. I might need a new PSU. I know that TR plus SLI 2080s is a good amount of power but I’m really disappointed if this EVGA G3 1000w unit is bad after 2 years.

Least it has a 10 year warrenty. Still a bummer if it is the PSU though!

If it’s the PSU I won’t use another G3. I’ll go somewhere else. I’ll RMA and sell it off or put it in my brothers rig.

If the issue persists I’ll likely move on from the whole rig, even though having a TR 1950x with dual 2080s has been productive from work, and grab a 3000 series Ryzen if it can match the 1950x core count with faster boost clocks then match that with a single 2080Ti.
