help with insurance company after wreck

As many of you know I got in a wreck a few days ago. And Im starting to think that it may be totaled.
If so, I need some help getting the most I can out of the stupid Insurance company. I have way too much money and time into my truck to just get the KBB price.
I need some references to print out and show. But I cant find anything like my truck on craigslist.
I would like to maybe get 15k out of them if possible... Anyhelp appreciated. Thanks!

And BTW, every truck I found while looking was easily about 2k over KBB, and being snapped up quickly...

 

I'm afraid that the insurance company will go by KBB to value your truck. When one of my motorcycles was totaled I got a little extra because of new tires and some add ons but was still short on replacement cost.

What is the repair estimate? Maybe you can buy the truck from the insurance company with the money they give you and use the difference to repair the truck?

 

And look at NADA ( I have never done this, but lots of guys swear by this being what the industry uses) and Edmunds.

Also, compile all your receipts for all you mods (you have them, right?) or at least print current prices from internet vendors.

You can negotiate with the insurance co, and you will have the opportunity to keep the truck if you think you'd rather have the repairs done yourself. You do not have to take their offer (at least, this is how it works in CA).

BTW, what is the nature of the damage? I could have driven my 93 away, but they totalled it.

 

NADA tends to help sellers, where KBB trends more towards buyers IIRC. The comparison might help...but it might not.

You MIGHT be able to get some of the mods money back...but I would not hope for it. Most policies give you X dollars (mine is 1000) coverage for "add-ons" and then you have to specifically tell them about anything past that amount (ostensibly so they can reassess the risk/replacement value for the policy...realistically- You premium will go up).

Your insurance company should give you "fair market value" they will basically take a look at all of the tacomas similar to yours (same trim, condition, mileage, etc) that are selling within your area and they will give you the money it would take to purchase the same vehicle again.

When I totalled my first car when I was a teenager I was surprised how much they gave me. They gave me $2k more than I was expecting.

 

worked with lots of insurance companies at the body shop standard procedure is 80% of fair market value less deductable some companies will pay for aftermarket parts but not very many best of luck

The insurance company will do a market value search based off of your zip code. NADA and KBB are basically a guideline as they encompass a region not a local market which is what the insurance company owes. Most aftermarket items do not add much value as they are considered preferential items. The value will be based off of mileage options and conditioning..
