285/75R17 Perfect Size on 3rd Gen

I agree. The sidewalls look pretty thin on my 17s. Although when I do it, I'm going straight to 35x12 or 315s. Go big or go home!

 

I have owned 4 toyota 4x4s and this will be the first one to have tires that are not 315s or 35x12.5..... Its kind of a bummer, but these 285/75s are as close as I can get without trimming out my fenders. I never had to trim anything on any truck before this one to fit 35s. Its like Toyota intentionally made these trucks to not fit tires that shoulda came on them hah. My 80 series fit 315s with 2 inches of lift with no rubbing and modification. I bumped it up to 3.5 inches of lift for articulation while rock crawling... but 2 inches of lift was sufficient. Just a matter of changing coil springs and shocks. No CMC, no fender massaging, no pinchweld.

 

I have no qualms with cutting as you can see from my front and rear bumper Already have done the pinchweld and am waiting for some free time to do a big CMC. Part of me does want to get some +3 glass up front for a cleaner look once I get 35s, but where I live, trails are tight and narrow so trimming my stock fenders are probably my best bet.

I could imagine, probably lags a lot going west to Mt. Hood too. Im actually saving up to try and move back out that way. Hoping to have the money in like 5 yrs to get back out to beaverton or somewhere outside of the city. Portland be too expensive. My parents sold their house in 2002 for $200k. It sold for $400k recently... fuuuugged

 

Did you have to get your caster adjusted forward to get it to not rub? Im fighting this battle right now with my setup.

 

Damn! Yeah houses went up here like crazy the past 18 years. Yup definitely lags going to Hood as well lol!

so if the speedo is off with the wheels and tire change to 34s, are the calculations for the mpg off as well???

I get a lot of questions on my mods, all details in my build thread.
Front is a Revtek, I moved the lights back on it as the tabs were not the look I was after for the spots.
Bed bar mounts in track, lots of details on how I had them customize it for me so I could accommodate my toys.

Hey yall, it looks like im going to be adding regearing to 4.88s to the equation so trying to cut costs. Looks like Fox coilovers and shocks are on the cutting floor.

Can anyone confirm that this setup would work with the 285/75/17 setup?

-Bilstein 6112 Front set at 2 inches
-Bilstein 5160 Rear
-Allpro leaf pack
-Camburg UCA



Of course I am going to be doing an aggressive CMC and heat mold the fender liners. Im also going to shoot for 4 degrees of caster on the alignment. Just wanted to be sure this setup would work.

285/75r17's get way better mileage than say a 315/70r17 haha I just went up in size and noticed an immediate change. with the 285's I was able to manage 18 on the highway with 16 avg to a tank. Now the instant mpg bar sits at or around 16 on the highway. Hopefully the mileage doesn't tank too much but I imagine one the fuel trims balance out it will go up a bit. But in reality its only like 10-15 dollars a tank more going from 18mpg to 15.

 

I'd love to know how. I'm getting 15ish at best, my Speedo isn't yet calibrated thanks to hypertech not having the 2019 module.
