Are they genuine Toyota wheels though? Last time I looked on Amazon for some, anything under $100-125 were aftermarket knockoffs. Any genuine Toyota parts, and especially newish looking, were $150+.

This is on the way to the Seven Troughs mine in Northern Nevada. Just absolutely gorgeous part of the country and not a soul out there.

I have no idea. I bought the wheels from a guy with tires mounted. I was told that's where those rims can be obtained. I suppose if they aren't genuine Toyota, it wouldn't make a hill of beans to me as they look great, fit perfect, and I've gotten nothing but compliments on them since I mounted them. I'd much rather spend $80 on knockoff steelies, than $150 on the same thing with a Toyota stamp, but that's just me. I may look one day when I take one off to see if they're stamped if I remember to. If mine happen to be knock offs, I'm pretty impressed with 'em-
for what it's worth, my neighbor who has an FJ with 17" steelies' wheels are identical to mine in appearance, offset, etc

Yeah....I like to get Offroad and in the backcountry every chance I get. I had a 2016 TRD Off Road DCLB and put well over 1000 total miles off road on it before it got totaled and I replaced it with the exact same model Tacoma you see above (just a 2019 version). I could have replaced it with a short bed version at that time but for the places I go and the kind of “overlanding” style off-roading I do the long bed has no issues what so ever. Plus I can sleep in the back when I have my softopper on and carry more gear so the long bed just works better for me all around. More versatility for the things I do and places I go.

Now if I was more into the style of off-roading where I was just doing trails to conquer the trail and do the most difficult rock crawling the short bed would be the better choice. But I don’t. I do get on some seriously rocky trails (about basketball size rocks) where I have to crawl and cross washed out stream and creek beds out here in the desert. But the long bed has no issue for me to date.

My current DCLB is setup just like my last. I love the look of a lift but I don’t want to deal with that until my extended factory warranty runs out. So since I am not running a lift and I need to protect the bottom of the truck I do have every piece of steel armor one can have: full set of steel skids (including gas tank) and rock sliders. That also gives me piece of mind when off roading a DCLB.

The DCLB will get you almost every where a DCSB will. Just decide what type of places and off-roading you will be doing and buy accordingly. Either way you get a great truck that will be an amazing platform for the adventures you have in mind. Have fun!

I`m planning to build a Off roading trailer, overlander expedition style, mainly cause I know I can spec one out for a ton cheaper then buying it. The LB was a option cause I planned to use it for hauling things plywood etc for working on house an that sorta stuff. Was`nt sure how well the LB is for off roading which when I have a Taco, it will be doing that, A LOT. I was eyeing the LB cause it like how it looks, but the extra length makes me think it has the same angle for break over at the Gladiator which in videos, gets stuck on stuff easily. I plan to lift the truck as well an also probably end up tucking 35s under the thing.

I would love to and plan to get an Offroad trailer eventually as well. The LB does come in real handy around town when carrying cargo around for projects at the house. SB can get a bed extender and that helps them carry extra cargo as well. Just depends on what you need.

Your right, the break over angle is the one issue with the DCLB. Don’t know your family situation but you may want to consider an Access cab? Less interior room but you get the long bed and the wheelbase is the same as the DCSB if that is a big concern off-roading for you?

If you plan to lift and go 35” tires on a DCLB you won’t have any issues off-roading. That combo will literally do it all. Should be an amazing performing and looking setup.

I was eyeing the smittybilt scout, but don't like the layout at all, not for a kitchen setup that im after for the wife. So I might have to have it built from scratch from the ground up.
