Ive used a Garmin and they can be nice however Id bet that after you start using the tablet you won't go back.

And if you get into the radio more you'll want aprs running too

    See my additional post above.

And I'm certainly not an expert on the subject, but my radio should be able to send APRS info on it's own. I know it can get more involved with that, but lets be honest, if I'm too lazy to figure out tablet navigation, there's no way I'm going to be an APRS expert.

Bcn XE is easier to use than Bcn pro. Downloading maps is done by selecting tiles now and there is no file size limit other than your SD card. I just can't find a map that I like that is up to date on roads but also has points of interest. Like your paper maps have.

The Thunderfrost landscape in bcn pro is the best one in pro. Haven't looked at xe.

Hard to beat an old map. But you can just go to usgs sites and look at every version of every toppo map they've made.

LOL probably true. Some cool stuff though with the aprs.

Can I download CO, WY, and UT so they're already there? :D

Also, it's still nothing more than your location on whatever map you download, correct? It can't tell you how to get from A-B, right? It's just a digital map. I really don't see the value, other than it replacing dozens of my cherished paper maps.

I believe all the same maps are available. Some are only offered in the higher subscription. I think thunder forest is one of the ones I use.

If your SD card is large enough, yes.

No, it doesn't have turn by turn directions but it places this neat dot exactly where you are so there's no guessing what road your on. You can also draw out tracks before hand on your computer if you have a specific route you want to follow.

I have basically all of Ut and Wy downloaded.

Not sure why you need built in nav? You can just create your own tracks before hand so your route is already marked. Its what I do. If you need help navigating to the location...thats what offline google maps is for lol

I think you guys overestimate my ability to prepare. :bananadead: I really don't want to draw out GPS tracks prior to a trip.

Have you figured out Overlays on XE yet? Wondering if it's my tablet or a coming soon feature. I miss some of the overlays I had in Pro

Really not that hard if you know how to do it effectively. But if thats the case. Ditch the tablet and just use your maps and garmin. I see no point to having the tablet there otherwise haha

I haven't messed with XE yet. Thought you had to pay for it and I paid for Pro a few years ago. Don't want to subscribe to it yet. But I have purchased Overlays too so hopefully those transfer if/when I do get XE

Just tell me where to show up so I can get the best instagram shots! I don't know why I need navigation anyways. Can't we get the shot closer to the starbucks?

Obd Bluetooth to replace the UG, ditch the Garmin for a tablet. Use the tablet for all the things. That's thieves wet dream as it sits. I learned well from @Teamhypochondriac ....

I didn't realize mounting some shit on my dash, 3/5 of which was already in that exact spot, would cause such a discussion.

Move them where? There's not exactly a lot of room to be working with here.

Tablet mount has been there for a couple years. When I was using BCN, it worked just fine there. I really, really don't want it sitting in the middle of the dash blocking that much more of my view.

I choose not to live in fear. They can have the garmin and the UG, phone and tablet won't just be sitting there most of the time, and the radio faceplate is bolted down.
