If I do another bumper (I’m almost positive I will), I'm getting a bigger welder. Like a lincoln 180. I’m putting 220 in my new shop “just in case” lol.

My 125hd did the job, but I’m betting I could have done it in maybe half the time (or less).

I guess I will keep "making do" with my little Lincoln. This bumper was my first big project, and I have had the welder for many years. But I'm sure it would be easier and better with the proper set up. As they say in W. Va., poor folks have poor ways.

Ended up cutting the grill. Too much work to try and stuff the solenoid box under the hood, so out came the hacksaw: had to cut a little extra to make room for the plug.

Finished product with working turn signals (and winch).

There's plenty of room in there, I don't see why not.

Only reason I did that was so I didn't have to futz with relocating the solenoid box. I believe the x20's have a removable box. If that's the case, you just need to get some longer wire and find a spot for the box. The size of the winches themselves are pretty much the same.

Mine is an XBull, there are some pics of my location for the controller back earlier in this thread. I also had to clock the lever for the engage to clear grill. Easy to do.

I was told it'd be like 6-8 weeks, but I think it only took a couple weeks.

I think we have somewhat of an advantage with the DIY kits since they don't need to get in line for the welder to do his thing. Just cut and bend and ship.

Okay I was going to order mine tomorrow. 6-8 weeks is plenty of time to save for a winch also. Thank you.

I know someone considering selling a welding if you're interested... ;)

are you new to welding? If so, definitely get a bunch of scrap 3/16 and 1/4 steel and practice.

Also, take your time and don't let too much heat build up like I did and have the bumper warp slightly and not fit on the winch plate and have to cut it off and start over.

    have fun!

I hadn't really thought about it, still not sure I'll sell it quite yet, but you got me thinkin'...

New is $440 at home depot, got it ~2 years ago. It's got most of a 10lb roll or nr-211-mp in it (minus a bumper's worth, lol). I dunno, 350.

One word of advice as you start building your bumper. Put a couple of washers between the upright plates, where it comes apart and you can remove the main portion of the bumper. It will give just a little wiggle room to ease removal and more especially reinstallation.
