No I’m saying I agree. Someone was saying that spending 15-16k isn’t needed to get a very well performing set up but what you’ve said earlier pretty much puts me right back at the price point you’re talking about anyway so either way you spin it it will cost over $10k for any set up that is able to perform better than bolt on mid travel market

I agree there are a ton of fab shops but doesn't mean they know suspension beyond being able to install it... Getting it to fit and welded on is just part of the job as you know. Knowing who to trust is the difficult part, everyone will take the money gladly but doesn't mean they will deliver. just for kicks I got the quote from DMZ... jaw dropped nearly $20K for TC 2.5 racer front/rear set up unbelievable !

Listen OP, you have just gotten advice from one of the best guys for mid travel setups, granted because he makes his own kit for TW members. These shops...

don't charge you however much money just because they want to. It is because they are reputable shops that build long travel trucks that take more abuse than your pots and pans sliding around in the back of your camper. Let's look at it this way, you say you have a STEEL front, rear, and full skids. w o w. prob like 400+ lbs. A vagabond drifter, I don't even wanna guess how much that weights. You are already prob 700+ lbs, not including gear. Like those who have said before, you have to pay to play or shave the weight.

400 lbs I wish... I probably have that in bumpers alone. Habitat thats another 350 lbs gear, fridge, battery, racks, sliders, armor etc I'm guessing is easily another 500 -700 lbs. The question is does the long travel conversion able to handle overland set ups/weight or is it a pipe dream. All things considered I'm simply wondering if it's the right choice that's what it comes down to.

Weight isnt the problem, tuning is. Very high end prerunners weigh in 7-8k lbs and they will boogie through things that will make you piss in your chonies. You will need to get your spring rates and valving correct to your vehicle. 99% of people do not understand this and more importantly do not want to do the work to get it right. Do not underestimate the work, to get it right you will have your shocks off many many many times before you are happy.

I’m no suspension expert in the slightest but I’m aware the bp-51s come with rebound and compression adjustments. Have you tried messing with that? It may take a quite of bit of time to get ballpark to your liking but that’s better than spending a chit load of money and downtime on your truck.

Of course I’ve messed with that :) all the adjustments in the world can’t comoare to a bigger volume shock when it comes down to it. I’ve already decided and am in a process of long travel conversion. Bps will be for sale shortly.

Am i wrong in thinking that it’s probably a bad idea to spend a ton of money for a “long travel go fast” rear end SUA setup if you still plan to keep all the heavy camping stuff on the truck? Doesn’t make a ton of sense to me but I know guys do it all the time

If you pay close attention you'll notice anyone that has a SUA camping truck keeps it relatively lightweight. There's a reason people don't run armor, swing gates, shells/RTT, Jerry cans, fridges, and other heavy ass camping shit on SUA.

Different ways to skin a cat most guys don’t go to that set up mainly because of $$ and who said you can’t go fast with a bit extra weight ? Have you seen semi trucks and what they do with Baja racing ? Lol
