1st Gen Lunchtable Thread - General Discussion

I got tired of the one on my mom's explorer going dead so often so a baby voltage regulator and a 9v solved it forever haha.

 

Removing the entire wiring harness has to suck.

You know how those shadetree mechanics remove engines from cars so quickly at the junkyard? I watched them do it. It was a damn clean 2004 5-Lug that had a rear end accident. 150k miles.

Big ol' Sawzall to the main wiring grommet in the engine bay.

 

I'd put money on it, it happens pretty easily, especially if there are splices or bad weather seals.

 

There's also a billion splice points everywhere on a single circuit.

 

I did it on my green and grey truck, for the early Tacos it ain't bad, for other vehicles, especially luxury. I bet it's hell

 

I spent the last 7 hours stripping floors. Only like 9 more hours left tomorrow.

 

I cringe at how much wiring those Cadillacs and Buicks had. Just spaghetti in the engine bay. Some Cadillacs had the ECU sitting right next to the horns so I had to pull the whole ECU out to get to the horns.

 

Probably for the best

At the end of the night we about wished we had one. This job sucks.

 

engine harnesses are simple. body harnesses are a nightmare. hell new cars are easier because the engine harness is literally only in the engine bay. it doesnt go t oa ECU behind the glove box (not like thats hard either)

 

outside connections are better suited to water ingestion.


the interior harnesses are not waterproof connectors.. any issues can be steming from there. expeically the ECU wirse. they do not had weather packs on them

 

I used the small version of this tool to remove the spray-in bedliner on the 5-Lug rails to access the spot welds.
