Ive been working on this mod for a while. It’s almost ready for market. For now it’s only for the driver’s-side rear door, but it’ll likely work on the passenger-side as well. (Note: Fire extinguishers not included)

I’m also trying to gauge interest in a 1 X Extinguisher and 1 X can of Lloyd’s Loobit version (may also work with FluidFilm or Plastiderp.....but you’re on your own until proven).

I am also looking for any 2nd Gen guys who might be willing to test this mod on their rig.

Let me know what you think.

What’s the mod? Can’t see any hold downs in the pics, but I’d like a free one..

Yeah I'm interested in this also. Can't find a spot that I'm happy with.

Looks like it’s only 3rd Gen guys wanting your mod, a bit more refinement and then maybe the 2 gen guys will be into it. No shop towel holder ?

I think it’s clear I’m being a little sarcastic, but this is the best spot for at least one extinguisher.

    - Super easy access.

    - no strap to undo.

    - no cap/shell/canopy or tool box to unlock.

    - always at the ready.

    - can put one in each door for fire season.

    - stays dry and warm and does not corrode.

    - theft proof, unless window smashed.

-the extinguishers (if you get the right size), won’t bounce out of the door pockets as they hit the armrest structure. Like it’s meant-to-be.

I do not find a single extinguisher rattles. You could put a cloth or something to wedge it if it did. Also, some vibration is beneficial to powder extinguishers, so if they shake around a bit, all the better.

Some of the 1st Gen guys were worried about the mod putting extra stress on their frames. I am hopeful it’ll pass muster in the 2nd Gen crowd. They are a tough bunch.

Haha ! If their frames can handle beating 3rd gens in drag races then I’m sure this mod will be fine!

Get outta town! Maybe with wheelie bars on the 1st Gen, to keep the nose down and the frame in one piece.

Pretty close. $20 but it’s crash tested (unfortunately)

How did you mount it to the head rest?

What happens if you stop abruptly with a passenger in the back? Do their heads hit it?

Threaded shaft collars around the post. Grade 8 flange bolts and metal spacers. Bolt tightens into the post and pulls quick fist clamp back against seatback and headrest. Survived a 50mph T-bone accident in my 5th gen 4Runner.2C7D3525-161F-4C8A-8501-E8A2AB8660C9.jpg

I rarely have passengers in the back. The extinguisher can come off in seconds and the whole mount in a few minutes. Isn’t much room behind my driver seat for a passenger anyways, but the other side is wide open

Damn, if my daughter wasn’t such a slob, I’d have room for those in the rear cupholders. Now it’s just a extra napkin and water bottle holder.

Anyone considering this, I just wanted to point out I’m not joking. This actually works really well, especially if you’re on a budget.

Anyone driving around, especially offroad, should have an extinguisher and this mod costs you nothing. If you see smoke from dry grass caught in your catalytics, it could save your truck and prevent a forest fire.

I have used the extinguisher once already. A random lady in the mall parking lot had a alternator fire going on and we got it out. It’s nice to be able just grab the thing out of the door.
