Jeez, sounds pretty damn expensive just to go fishing there.

So I earned a life membership that way. (Last I looked, a life membership was over $500 bucks, and you gotta be over 60 or something, I forget).

Five bucks a year for fishing privileges. Free parking.

 

My story could be told more briefly.
I could spare you unnecessary detail.
But I won't.

THE CARP THAT STOLE MY FUCKING ROD

So I'd just moved here to PA and gotten married.
A new friend invited me to go fishing on the Susquehanna.
For channel catfish. At night. I had never been before.

So we get there and set up on the river bank. He lights his lantern and breaks out the bait.
"Jeezo Pete", says I. "What's that almighty stink?"
My Friend: "Chicken livers, left out in the sun all day."

Just then: KER-SPLASH!

Me: "What the...?"
Him: "Oh, that's a Carp. They get frisky sometimes on warm moonlit nights."
Me: "Sounded like a fucking whale!"
Him: "Yeah, they get pretty big."
Me: "Bet it would be fun to catch one of those!"
Him: "That one? You'd never land him with that tackle. Not with all the rocks out there. You wouldn't want to eat him anyway."

So we fish for awhile and the catfish are robbing me, while my friend is hauling them in.

KER-SPLASH!
Saw it in the moonlight.

Me: "I'm going for that carp. Maybe I can hit him on the head or something."
Him: "Pfffft!

So I cast out, trying to hit the spot.
No sooner put my rod down than it launched into the river.
Like a rocket.

Good morning.
@Gritto the largest carp I have seen caught was over 30 pounds. The guy had a complete set up, tripods for the poles to rest on, line alarm/sensor to tell if the line is moving at all. He also caught a 27lb carp about 1/2 hour after that.

They were suppose to turn off the water at 6 this morning. They turned it off at 515. My wife is a tad pissed, got up early to shower because of it. She went up and chewed out the guys from DWP.

 

Oh boy.... not a good start to the day! I imagine a few people were pissed about the earlier than planned shut off!

 

No particular reason.

That's plenty big alright.
My friend said when they're hooked they go low and bulldog. Like a stingray.
In the Susquehanna you'd need a wire leader cuz of all the rocks.

I dunno, never caught one.

Not a very good joke, but locally they say this is the best recipe for a Carp:

1) Put Carp on a board over open fire.
2) Throw away carp and eat board.
