Let's See Some Softoppers

For those who have them, did you see any negative affects for fuel economy?

Ok. Another. Do people normally just keep them up year round or do you go with a tonneau when you aren't "using* it

 

Mine is only folded forward if I have some taller stuff to haul.

I've hauled washers and dryers, quads, sapling trees with root balls. That kind of thing.

I do roll up the sides and roll "safari mode" in the fall when scouting for trout fishing spots.

 

I leave mine up unless I'm hauling a large load. I have the decked bed drawers with tools in it. Dont want to advertise it's there. Out of sight out of mind sort of thing. Yeah, they lock, and the tailgate locks, but...

 

I take mine off in the winter, as a precaution because the window are know to get brittle in cold.

 

I have black also. What I have observed, is the bed area; yea it gets hot. However not hot to the touch gonna burn you. Like it is when wide open. Was thinking of picking up some reflectixe and putting it between the bars and roof fabric. To help block some heat. Could probably double side velcro it to the side too if needed. But I roll up my sides 2-3x a week.

 

I know the feeling. That's why I'm still on the fence and reluctant to part with my backflip. I would only be able to getting the soft cap for the dogs and that really isn't that safe

 

Slight. Maybe .5 mpg having it on vs off. Pretty negligible

Thanks for posting it over here. No rips, frame is good. It's hard to sell stuff for a long bed, everybody has short beds.

 

What a deal! Wish I was closer.

 

Already applied reflective insulation from homedepot and tint on the back window. Best mod on softopper ever. With side window rolled up ( side facing the sun ) it was cool and comfy inside with some breeze.

 

How close are you guys shifting the softtopper to the cab? Is it necessary to velcro the rear? Any benefits pulling it closer to the cab?

 

What made you go with best top over softopper?

 

Same as mine. I did Velcro the rear because I don't want dust to enter. It has foam mattress and sheets /pillows at all times. We go camping a lot so....

 

I have a bestop. I am going to add a strip of material so it hangs over the tailgate as I find it leaks there

 

Mines not that close to the cab, I'll have to get pics in a bit. Inside the front window, you know the flap you can install the snaps? Mine goes straight down, no bends, no lip.
