That's why I love the Bracketeer mount. No rattle and totally secure.

Id think I'd be upset at first, then I'd look at my dog. He'd probably be looking at me like this...

Then I'd laugh and die inside.

No.. My point was the fire extinguisher in my truck is for my truck (or for someone else having a really bad day). Vehicle fires can happen anytime, anywhere and thats what these are for. If you live in a tinder box state, I dont think a portable fire extinguisher is going to make a dent in anything except the smallest runaway campfire..

Ah gotcha, I agree 100%. However, you never know when you're going to be the first responder. You may have an opportunity to put out something before it starts as well. Then again, I have a higher chance of having that opportunity either due to our natural fires or all the bums lighting clothes on fire up the street from my house.

Yes. The extinguisher does not put out the bush fire, it puts out your exhaust fire, engine fire, or brake drum fire, before is starts a forest fire. That is what people don’t understand.

A large number of forest fires are started as vehicle fires.

In the case of my mount behind the headrest, it takes me about 6 seconds to exit and have extinguisher at ready. Mine isn’t really meant for a fire in my truck, but moreso other vehicles in distress. If flames in my vehicle are going up any faster than that, I’m going to get people out of it, and not even attempt to put it out. If flames are going up that fast on another vehicle, I’m not even going to attempt to deploy a 2.5lb fire extinguisher. Every situation would obviously be different, but quick assessment and prioritization are going to be what saves the day.

I'm not going to argue the reason for DOT & USCG requirements. Not going to argue popping a pressurized item in the cab could be a bad thing. Not even going to say this would never pop in a t-bone type hit.
I only want to point out that to smash it, it would most likely require a hard surface on BOTH sides of it (think hammer-anvil or vise-squeeze). The plastic bin & plastic seat cover would not provide a suitable anvil surface. The seat frame maybe; but that is a fair distance into the cab and obviously other, more severe, problems would be in play by then. So IMO it most likely wouldn't be popped.
    But never say never.

I will advocate securing it to prevent flying object / ballistic damage in those certain situations.
I do like the quick access (both remaining in the truck or out of it (open door / open window)).

That's why dry chemical extinguishers are most common. They're universal. While the one I have is a 10 B:C tailored to something happening in my engine bay, I wouldn't hesitate a second to use it on fire in the center divider brush fire in my small town.

Tesla and Lambo fire season will be in full swing soon, but 2.5# of chemical ain't doing shit. That's like a breath mint for a full blown fire

Just depends on the fire size. 2.5lb is enuff to cover a fire the size of your kitchen range. After that, call the pros.

It really depends on what hits you in the door. I can tell you right now that most lay people will never service these extinguishers properly i.e. never do a hydro test at the required 12 year intervals. Even if it doesn't pop you sill have to worry about the handle getting bent just enough to discharge it in the cab. FYI the pin does not have to come out for an extinguisher to discharge if the handle gets bent hard enough. I rather not breathe in 2.5# of ABC chemical despite the safety data sheet saying no real harm.

No way is that stuff safe to breathe. Probably "safe" when used properly, aka sprayed in front of you and you may only get a wiff of some small particle. But if you get blasted in the face, I wouln't say that stuff is safe at all.

    Basically what I thought...

"Mica may contain small quantities of quartz (crystalline silica) as an impurity. Prolonged exposure to respirable crystalline silica dust at concentrations exceeding the occupational exposure limits may increase the risk of developing a disabling lung disease known as silicosis."

"Prolonged" keyword, our bodies can filter out most toxins unless exposed to large quantities.

THIS. I started carying an extinguisher after I literally watch someone burn to death from an auto accident. Always planned on having one to help someone else who needs it, for that reason I used to carry it in my door like OP.

Then one day it flew out just from catching a little air offroading... made me think "holy shit what if I'M the one who needs it after an accident?! Shit is going to fly all over the cabin, if I'm stuck, updside down, in a burning car (just like the lady I saw die)... I'm going to need that thing SECURED and IN REACH".

    Def something to consider.

Keep a glass breaker/ seat belt cutter right next to it! I have my extinguisher, med kit and glass breaker all secured and in reach in case I'm trapped.

FYI folks the last thing you want is an ABC extinguisher discharging in the cab. ABC powder can fuck electrical connectors up quicker than Lucas electrics ever did.
