    But will it hurt ME??

If my truck is on fire and I'm at the point where I need to use my fire extinguisher to save myself I honestly wouldn't give a single fuck about any electronics. If my truck is on fire I'd want it totalled out anyways.

We are gonna get to the bottom of this brothers and sisters.

It’s a worthy topic to banter through. I’m glad I brought it up

I think hes more so speaking about having the extinguisher in the cab in general, even with no immediate fire threat. If there is any accidental discharge just as your driving down to the market, it would destroy your electrical.

    ah well that makes sense.

Luckily just checked my extinguisher (HP3) and its a "B/C" advertised as safe for electronics :fingerscrossed:

I guess it all boils down to risk.

I’m my life, I’ve been witness to maybe 5 or 6 vehicle fires, and several roadside brush fires, and at least two accidents with lanterns and camping stoves.

I have never seen, nor known anyone, who had an extinguisher accidentally go off in their car or truck. Never even heard of it until this thread, but it is for sure a remote possibility.

If I was a betting man, I’d put my money on needing to put out a fire over accidental discharge.

My personal favourite vehicle fire was the Chevy “blazer” I saw burning. It was a Blazer for sure!

I have put out an electrical fire under the hood with an ABC powder unit. The aforementioned alternator fire, which was in a Honda Accord.

Same, the rate of an accidental discharge is as unlucky as popping a tire on eggshells. Who knows when or if it can happen, but in this life anything is possible. I'm with you, I much rather have it ready to rock to protect my life over the vehicle, even if that means I may destroy some worldy possessions.

My first thought was passengers face in an accident or when braking suddenly to avoid one.

Last summer, while driving this road, I almost lost my truck to fire. The seed-pods from the flowers growing up in the middle of the track were packing in around my Catalytic Convertors. I smelled smoke and caught it just in time. I could pick the material out before it went from smoulder to flame.

If it had caught fire, at least I would have a chance to put it out with my extinguisher. I was literally 1000 miles from nowhere at the time.

As I’ve stated before, I rarely have passengers in the back seat.

It took a long time to clean that stuff out of my old 2nd gen. Doggo was unharmed and felt silly.

The dry chemical powder is also very corrosive and will seriously damage electrical components. I carried a halon extinguisher when I owned a Porsche. Luckily I never needed it.
