Its only about 130lbs or so of pressure, not a 2000psi gas cylinder. At worse it will get an powder spurting crack.

Great- Probably had one of those red_ (redacted) exhaust stacks with a styrofoam cooler laying against it. It’s good he had help though.

After spending a while researching this, I’ve decided the extinguisher is not likely to blow up in an accident, and if it did, the damage to the truck would be so severe it would be a write-off anyways. I might appreciate being doused in the powder at the time, because my truck would likely be on fire. These things seem hard to get to explode, and even when shot with rifles, don’t seem to do a dramatic explosion, any more than shooting a bottle full of water would. The powder for sure would make an absolute mess, but you are not likely to be killed by shrapnel from the tank or anything.

    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=HolOi2x1Vvc

Anyways......in my personal opinion, there is a risk of accidental discharge if you let kids play with it, or don’t keep the pin properly installed. That’s about the extent of my concern at this point.

I am much more concerned about having the ability to fight a small accidental fire before it lights the whole hillside on fire, or burns my truck to the ground (would like to save the wheels at least).

It would have to pass through either the entirety of the seat or my legs first. If it does combust, its more likely through the valve than a complete catastrophic failure.

Some people where enjoying a little pre easter ham and porn hub last night. I still think it's ignorant to just throw it in the door.

I'm very glad you weren't seriously injured!

There is a lot of engineering that goes into seat design, in particular headrest design because neck/head injuries are common. If you add mass to the headrest, you will compromise the design. It is not a good idea.

Here's a good video with slow motion footage. You can see that if you add mass (inertia) to the headrest, it is not going to move the way it's supposed to. Adding the extinguisher may increase the impulse to the outside of your skull, and that will increase the impulse that your brain suffers against the inside of the skull.

So we circle back again, get the Bracketeer and mount it to the front or back partitions of either driver or passenger seat. At least if you want the quickest access. Otherwise mount it to your bed rack or rails.

Or just throw one in the back door pocket and be done. That’s much easier to achieve for your average joe.

This is my bracketeer setup in the front passenger seat. I also have a sticker on the passenger door to show its location. The seat is rolled back to its rearmost position to show the mounting details, in practice people don't even notice that the extinguisher is there. I do have a slight problem because there is a regular passenger who seems always to catch the clips with his foot when exiting, and I have to set them again. I am going to relocate the extinguisher to the back of the passenger seat rails in my copious spare time.

It is a good idea to use light strength locktite on the mount threads.

But the Bracketeer is not some complex mechanism. The average Joe is even overqualified to install it.

Have you tried under the drivers seat? Im not a terribly tall person and once you roll the seat up over it, your legs go right around it. Not in the way at all.

Hey.....I’m not arguing your point at all. I’m happy there’s been a lot of discussion here and people are thinking about it. That’s the main thing. For sure, a properly engineered mount, in an accessible location, is perhaps better than my initial suggestion.

The main idea here, is go buy an extinguisher and put it somewhere.

    OEM, For now...

Wet Sand is the only thing that made a difference there. By the time the extinguishers got there it was too much for them to overcome.
As far as the small ones go, one is none two is one.
    Personally I prefer to have a 5.5 pounder than a 2 or 2.5#.

Stocklocker, thanks for the free mod. Just so folks know, it'll also work on an Access Cab. You can even use a larger 5 lb Fire extinguisher.
