Why all threads over MPG ???

If you drive a Corolla and get 30 mpg compared to a Tacoma that gets 18 mpg and you drive them each 18,000 miles a year and gas is $3.00 a gallon the math says that you will spend $23.00 more a week to drive the Tacoma . Personally I don't want to ride around in a small car and if you can't afford $23.00 a week then you shouldn't be in a $35k truck . So question is what's all the chat about mpg's for ? Not trying to be rude just wondering . The only way to get better mpg is stay home .

 

There is a lot of confusion thinking this is the Prius forum. Less we not forget it’s a truck.

 

We're currently in a large economic bubble and a lot of people that think they're rich are really one paycheck away from disaster.

 

It's 2019 - MPG matters even in trucks.

 

I get the feeling that a lot of forum members bought a Tacoma as their first truck after only having driven/owned cars.

 

To be fair, I don't think anyone expects 30 mpg out of our trucks. But no matter what you drive, whether it's a 60 mog hybrid or a 10 mog truck, why not attempt to maximize fuel efficiency?

 

problem is lots of people are getting 15mpg and not knowing if this is normal or not, you won't know if you don't ask, add to that most people can't or won't search you end up with 1000's of threads on MPG, Oil Change Intervals, which is the best LED etc...

 

Your probably not from California.

If you live in CA you would complain too.

 

It was pretty rough out here to begin with, but the $1 per gallon jump in the past month or so has been brutal on my gas budget

I wouldn't give up my Toyota for anything, but being that the truck is a given, I don't think there's any harm in aiming for 22 mpg average and saving a couple bucks at the pump

 

Its all relative. I came to the Taco from a 13mpg (at best) Tundra. I feel like I'm driving a Prius...

 

Lifts, armor, big tires don’t translate to good MPGs. That’s why I measure smiles per mile

 

Don’t eat to save money on groceries.

OP, move to California where gas is sitting between 4.00 and 5.50 per gallon right now. You will be looking to save every drop you can.
To get the best milage from this truck is to get up to speed limit as fast as possible and then lightly press the gas to maintain speed.

 

MPG is what it is but I think MPG matters when buying tires.

Some people might get lower quality/heavier tires with more rolling resistance to save some money but even a lower 1mpg means you will spend $350 more over the lifetime of the tires.

Why not go for lighter higher quality tires instead and pay upfront?

Net result is the same.

 

could be a lot of member came from full size trucks with v8's that get the same mpg and were expecting better because these are smaller

 

I think most guys on here getting poor mileage are running LT 285 mud tires, the mileage is pretty reasonable when stock. 18-24mpg is pretty average for any stock truck thats just running around is it not?
