I drive a Focus to save $$$$ on my expenses going to and from work. It gets about 30mpg compared to my Taco that gets about 15mpg (if I behave myself). I drive about 550 miles a week, or 26400 annually just to get to and from work. That's about $2323 yr in the Taco or $1161 in the Focus in fuel costs. There is also more to consider than just the MPG, such as maintenance cost and the cost of replacing tires. I bought 4 new 70K tires for the Focus in January for $502.37 mounting, balancing, road hazard, and taxes included. Last month I bought 4 new tires for the truck that if I'm lucky will get 50K, on sale for $1045 without mounting, balancing, or road hazard. I'll do that myself to save some bucks. When I bought the Focus 17 months ago it had a 118K on it, the Truck had 101K. The Focus now has 156K and the Taco 104K. So the 38K I put on the Focus would have been on the Taco's odometer, further increasing wear and tear, and decreasing its value. Plus I've got $$$$ in bumpers, sliders, under-armor, lift, wheels. Turning the Taco into a weekend warrior, more importantly, means I won't have to replace all that in 2-3 years when the Taco has 200K+ on it. You may look at each of these aspects individually, but I look at them all together, and as a road warrior driving the Focus saves me a lot more than $23 a week! Which means I have more money in my pocket to spend on other things.:D

You bought a truck for truck usage not a car, expect the milage advertised. After lift and armor expect 15 or less, depending on speed and driving computations. Reporting in at 15.8mpg

I tried the 2 rigs thing for awhile too, the fuel savings just didn't come close to covering the insurance, maintenance, registration, inspection. Just have the truck and a 1200 sporty now for the summer, which is no fuel saver either but cheaper to insure and maintain.

Ins for the Focus is an extra $350 and the plate is about $40. More important to me, so long as I don't total it wheeling on the side of a mountain, my Taco will last many many more years!

Mpg matters a little bit, but its not everything. I bought a 4cyl 5spd 4wd Tacoma to commute 130 mi round trip and to keep from racking up the miles on my GMC 2500 which by the way gets 1 mpg less than the Toyota. I was going to buy a Subaru but decided the Toyota could do other stuff. There are days that i wish i bought the Subaru but i,m happy with the Toyota. If it was purely about $$ then the decision would have been different.

No cyl deactivation on the dsl. My work truck is a Ram with 6.4 gas and it has that but only activates on downhill as its too heavy.

Or else buy a 2.7 with 5 speed manual 2 WD which gets 30 + MPG but almost every one on Tacoma World gets V-6 with 4WD and lift kits. bigger wheels etc. and bitches about poor gas mileage. You have to sacrifice one for the other as you can't have both. I don't need 4WD as I don't go off road so happy with mine and will keep forever.
