So I know this isn’t specific to Tacoma’s but I had my wife take her Rav 4 to get an oil change and she took it to jiffy lube where they switched from conventional to synthetic so I knew it would be more expensive but they charged $113 and then said she needs to do the next oil change in 3k miles. I’ve heard synthetic can technically last 20k but I was planning on doing the next change around 7.5k to 10k miles same with my Tacoma which has a first oil change coming up soon.

I’m thinking they are just trying to trick people into thinking oil changes are every 3k miles so they make more...Also I will be doing her oil changes from now on.

    Thoughts?

That’s what I’m thinking... they also said there was an oil leak but it’s fixed and charged $17 for disposing of the old oil. Not sure if they usually charge that fee but I’ve always done my own oil changes with my dad and taken the old oil to an auto parts for free. Not sure if I can trust anywhere to do oil changes now.

I figured cause my dad just bought my mom a new car and the dealership said she doesn’t need to come back for 20k miles for her first oil change.

I think they used pennzoil platinum. Receipt says “PZL Platinum SAE 5W30”

Check your owners Manuel for the Rav. You don’t change synthetic every 3K! Better still, stay away from the “quickie oil change shops”. They tend to strip oil plugs and use universal plugs to cover their mistakes.

Jiffy Lube has been busted and sued so many times for illicit and misleading business practices, it's a wonder they're still able to operate let alone do any business. I wouldn't listen to a word they say, furthermore I wouldn't go to them at all.

Going to do her oil changes from now on but 3k miles is ridiculous. Also didn’t realize they had so many problems.

With all due respect going to Jiffy Lube was the first mistake. Around 2010 I had a 1995 BMW 318 I think it was. The car was low to the ground, so I took it to Jiffy Lube out of convenience. It took conventional oil. No frills. I made sure to tell them up front that I just wanted an oil change. Nothing else. My bill was $80 and some odd dollars. I asked why. They told me I had a BMW and they added a $50 luxury car tax. That was the last time I was there.

That’s ridiculous and I told her to figure out her oil change since I’ve been busy working and she just picked wherever. I’m sure it will be fine but I’m doing all her oil changes from now on.

It's not just Jiffy lube but Toyota too. My owners manual says 5k Kilometers which is a far cry from 5k Miles. Guess it costs too much to update the manual.

Dateline or 60 Minutes (one of those primetime national news shows) did an investigative story on them awhile back and found that the employees are trained and told to blatantly lie to customers about what kinds of service they need to do on their cars, and reusing old plugs, filters and even oil to save on costs. I think they busted other drive thru places as well but Jiffy Lube was the big one

Yeah I’m definitely not changing the oil at 3k miles gonna see if the oil can hold up for 10k miles and just check it every thousand miles until it starts looking bad.

If it's full synthetic and assuming they put in what you paid for, you should get 7k out of it minimum. More if you drive mostly highway under normal conditions, etc

What's really ridiculous is paying $113.00 for an oil change.

Yeah I would’ve told her no but I was at work. I figured it would be $70

I've done that with Mobil one filters a couple times since they advertise them to be good for 20k miles. Usually I'll change them though if only for the peace of mind. But yeah if you're paying for a full oil change including a new filter then you'd best be getting a new filter.
