    See photo below.
    1) why is the hazard button so big, and why does it stick down so it hangs below the clean line of the plastic??

    2) why is the ETC Power button the only one that doesn’t have an indicator light on the button? I know it illuminates on the speedometer, but all the other buttons you can look at and know status...

File under, "why is volume up and volume down actually left and right on the steering wheel".

Because the ETC button is displayed on the dash cluster. Hazard buttons are always bigger so you can visually see it easier in an emergency situation

The emergency flashers are supposed to stick out so you can find it quickly in an emergency

The hazard button is designed that way to feel in case of emergency.
The ECT button does not have a light because when ECT is on and you turn the truck off, the ECT resets to default off.

Agreed, one of my only complaints about the Tacoma... I'll get used to it but after 6 years of the buttons being the other hand and doing different things, I still change the station when trying to turn the volume up

I realize the hazard button is supposed to be big/easy to find. I liked the old school top of the steering column.

Look at the radio display sometime and you’ll understand why. When you adjust the volume on the radio, it shows the volume level in a horizontal bar along the top, so the controls go left and right to match the display. The radio presents are up and down, because they are in a vertical list, so you are moving up and down that list on the display.

Same with why up/down are reversed with radio/XM vs MP3/CD.

Or, turning a dial has always been left and right. So why not put the buttons the same.

If you want to have an OCD meltdown, look at the switches to the left of the wheel. 4 buttons and none are the same.
