oil level after oil change

so i changed oil on my 02 TRD 3.4l. yesterday..i let oil drain for almost an hour, while i was doing something else. replaced oil filter and fresh oil of 6 quarts.... this morning i check dip stick still not at full level? owners manual says with filter its 5.7 quarts. i put in 6 quarts and still not at full level??? i dont get this?

 

Is it showing on the dipstick? I don't have an answer for your question, but so long as you're above the lower limit notch on the dipstick, I think you'll be good to to.

FWIW, I put in 5 qts. on my 5VZ-FE oil changes, and it always shows in the middle on the dipstick (i.e., in between the lower limit notch and the upper limit notch).

 

check for leaks at the filter and drain plug. Also are you sure your reading the dipstick correctly IE after the engine has been sitting for about 10 minutes without running.

....i drove my truck yesterday, and parked it over nite, and check oil level on leveled surface

 

so its between the marks on the dipstick? If so your fine. Thats how mine reads after 5.5 quarts.

 

6 quarts is probably exactly at the middle of the dipstick right? nearly every manufacturer says that anywhere between the top and bottom of the lines on the dipstick are in the "acceptable range" so they usually aim for the middle. cars come off the assembly line with the oil in the middle.

 

I have the opposite issue. Brand new Tacoma, 2010, purchased Nov. 30. Obviously does not need oil. But dipstick shows oil 2 inches above 'full' mark. Wipe stick and dip again. Same reading. Truck runs fine, no issues. I assume the dipstick simply picks up oil from somewhere while it slides up. Dunno. Same results if I wait overnight.

 

Here's my info:

Change oil/filter - using 5.7qts
Start truck, let run for 30 sec.
Let truck sit for 10 min.
Check.

My truck uses 5.7 qts, dead nuts.

 

you used 6 quarts but some of it went into the oil filter.....
