I know everyone complains about the way the Tacoma shifts, mine has been shifting fine, but lately it seems to have changed and at times, shifts rather odd. It's hard to explain, but it just seems to be shifting differently all of a sudden. I have 13000 miles on it and up until now,it's been fine. What do you think could have changed?Thoughts?

My 2018 is shifitng fine now. At first I thought it was having the transmission issue, but after about 2000 miles. It smooth out really nice.

Now it's shifting well. I have no issues myself.

The truck has a learning ECU. When it’s new the break in time is like 1200 miles or something like that

The transmission shifts according to speed and acceleration nothing unpredictable about that

Mine too. The ONLY time that I've even THOUGHT about how it shifts is when reading about it on this forum. :anonymous:
If something changes, I'll try to remember to complain about it here.

My thoughts exactly. The transmission drives like any other auto I’ve ever driven. It doesn’t always do what I want it to, but it shifts itself

I know that, mine has 13,000 miles on it though and the learning process should be over,up to this point it has been shifting flawlessly.

how can I do that with no dipstick? And why would it be low if it has been shifting fine up until now?

There are times when I'm turning onto a highway and get kind of a dead spot when trying to accelerate,I need to take my foot off the gas for a second then reapply and it then it picks up quickly but a little rough, this doesn't always happen, some days it shifts like it's supposed to. It's really weird.

But could my transmission fluid all of a sudden be low? It has been shifting fine for 13,000 miles

First things first, you get all the low hanging fruit. Any Toyota auto trans issues? Make sure the fluid is topped up. I'm too retarded to locate the thread, but some dude posted a NICE writeup on how to do it.
    Cliff Notes:
Have car parked on a very level spot, overnight, for cold transmission.
Climb under car, undo the 24mm(?) transmission filler nut, pump/pour 1 qt. into transmission. Reseal. Start car in park, idling.
Jump #4 and 13(?) pins under the dash together, go thru a 6 second rigamarole of shifting rapidly between Park and Drive(?).
A "D" will blink on dash to indicate you are in temp sensing mode.
It will then go out. After 10 mins, "D" comes back on solid. Now, you are up. Jump under car and undo the 5mm hex bolt. Any excess tranny fluid will fall out. Seal up when flow slows to a drip. Done.
When the "D" blinks you are now too hot to check your fluid.
That is about right, but is from memory, and so must be checked.

You ought to still be under warranty. BUT, since Toyota is playing dumb, we have to make sure our transmission fluid is topped up, ourselves. This should have never even been a thing, and someone needs a damned good kicking over it.

Im taking mine in on Tuesday for the shifting crap. I only have 4000 miles on it and was told it was "learning" about 2000 miles ago. This bs the dealers feed about they cant replicate it is BS mine has gone in 3 times and the last with a Toyota "tech" from some fancy Toyota specialist area who stated it was normal... I disagree as seeing when your truck is slightly on an incline, it shouldn't shift into 5 or 6 gear and get sluggish nor have to the down shift so far it wants to jump onto the car in front of you.
