Actually....it's more than that. Our 2nd gen trucks are Registered as CLASS II (5,001-7000lbs). The 1st gen trucks were under 5,000lbs and qualified under Class I.
    $81 for class II
    $58 for class I

You can re-register your 2nd gen as a CLASS I but you won't be able to tow as much (or GCWR) as you would with Class II.

I used to own a 1st gen and wondered why the hell the registration fee went up from one truck to the other. Now I know why..... 2nd gen weighs more.

Not suggesting any of us break the law but some Ca driver's are running fake tabs on their vehicles due to the outrageous registration fees and smog checks. Only time they get caught is when a LEO pulls the vehicle over.
Fake tabs are usually stolen and peeled off someone elses plate. Make sure you slice yours with a razor a few times to prevent theft.

Incorrect statement: Most police cars have camera's that scan & check plates, or allow the officer to punch in a plate number on their in car computer, and alert the officer of something like stolen car, stolen plate, no registration, and no insurance. They will automatically pull you over for the first 3, if your plate comes back as no insurance they wait for you to make a mistake.

With that said, I cut 4 lines in my tag from center to center horizontal and vertical, and corner across to other corner.

485 bucks for my registration this year CA.

    Reg Fee - 56
    License Fee - 319
    Weight fee -80
    County/district fee - 10
    Smog Abatement Fee - 20

I pay 485 bucks to drive on ca roads this year for registration, 11% of the cost per gallon is state/county tax, and 18.4 cents per gallon is federal tax. The money is mismanaged and most of our roads are shit!

If I could I would move back to LA in a heartbeat. There's no better place to live. Especially Utah. This place sucks
