Lift or bigger tires?

hey guys, I have a stock 2015 Tacoma sport and I’m trying to decide whether I should go with a lift or just increase tire size.

I’m not looking to go rockcrawling cuz I have a Wrangler for that. My truck feels like a suv so Im looking to increase my truck height without sacrificing big bucks.

Spacer lift is what you are looking for then

 

I should add that I do go off-roading with my truck but mostly dirt trails. Spacer lift isn’t something I’m looking for but appreciate the suggestion.

 

Spacer lift won’t stop you from going off road- you can see my link below but if it’s one or the other than go bigger on the tire-265/75/16 be done with it.

 

That's the budget lift, next one up is bilstein 5100s and ome coils and a new leaf pack or aal to get the lift to clear the bigger tire. And you still will probably need to trim and cut, plus hammer the pinch weld. At a price tag of about 1500 to 2000 for lift/tires and chopping.

 

I don’t want to get to the point where I need to change the gear ratio. Looking to lift the truck and keep everything else stock. Considering the 265/75/16 option.

OP, what's your budget and are you doing the work yourself?

 

265/75/16 should fit on a stock height truck (I ran them for a few months before modifying my suspension).

Also, you can lift it with 5100s and an AAL for $500ish plus the cost of an alignment or save a bit longer and go with coil overs and a complete leaf pack.

 

What are the max tires to go with 5100?

Ran this size on my sr5 and looked so much taller when picking up from tire shop.
Ran it off road mildly for about a year before installing any lift.
I think that would really be your best bet since you crawl your Jeep.
These trucks are fully capable machines, just add some good tires and you’re good to go

265s are about as big as you can go without chopping or trimming of any kind. Even witb a 3 inch lift and 33s, you will need a cmc. I say spacer lift and 265s will be you best bet, can always revert to stock if you want to

 

255/85/16 or 255/80/17 will usually fit without rubbing on stock suspension. It will raise the height of the truck a bit over an inch compared to the stock size tires.

 

I ran this on my truck for like 2 or 3 years with 33s and a cmc. No problems and I offroaded in places that this lift shouldn't have been lol

 

what current tire are you running? stock? because tires are the single biggest upgrade you can do to the truck.

 

You'll save a lot of money and headaches if you'll get over that silly feeling.

Put some quality tires on that suit 90% of your use of the vehicle and fit w/o modification and enjoy it as is.

 

I just put 255/74/17 Cooper ST Maxx on my 2014 Sport and am very pleased with the height, stance, and appearance. I do have a mild lift in the works but with the stock suspension the taller tires made a noticeable difference. I'd suggest starting with the taller tires and then evaluating from there.
