For those of you running UCon, I can confirm you will need to disconnect stock ECU and reconnect without UCon to be able to get HP Tuners to be able to read the ECU. Mine gave me an error message that said I had the wrong VIN and i'd need to contact HP. I disconnected UCon, reinstalled stock ECU by itself, and then it was able to read it without issues.

Lol. Unless we all go turbo at some point, I’m curious about the Whipple. Probably need a new crank, rods, pistons and some head work.

 

The pay is good and the work is steady. My service consultant is a beast and keeps my bays full at all times. My service manager treats me like royalty. The dealership is 8 miles from home. I flirted with the local Toyota dealer at one point. The service manager was nice and I liked the facility, but their compensation was surprisingly weak. They employ a TON of techs, so I assume they just stack them deep and pay them cheap. We have Takata stuff flowing through at all times as well. Easy money!

 

Yeah, once we whipple, we’re playing with fire with our stock internals with all the mods we have now with the TRD blower.

 

I’m curious what limits us now. I’ve seen the blower curve from @Roostfactor, and we’re on the lower end of efficiency with smaller pulleys so the Magnuson is a limitation. Is it the valve springs, rods, pistons... I don’t want to blow it up, but I’d like to know what to address next.

 

So HPT has said they may be able to disable the immobilizer, opening up the 1GR-FE to swaps..

 

I'm basically sticking with where I'm at now until I do a full engine rebuild, probably go with HP Tuners just to not have -10 AFR all the time at WOT. My next big engine mod will probably be down the Torspd route of full internals upgrade and either sleeves and/or stroker kit. Keep eyeballing used 1GRFEs I see popping up on craigslist. Want to get a built motor for the Tacoma so I can go for higher boost and have some real fun.

 

My Chevy has a whipple...... but not even close to that big..lol. That in a sand car would be nuts

The Whipple TVS would allow us even more power than we are currently seeing, since the displacement is naturally higher than that of our roots setup (1.4L vs. 2.3L) the boost does not have to be nearly as powerful as we have to make it right now in order to make the same amount of power, that would thereby open up the engine to more power all the while keeping the boost low. At lower boost levels the engine is in less danger to be unsafe since there is less heat as a whole being generated. I'm happy with my 150+ HP (at least) additional over NA config... but as with the power mods, there is always more to be desired by some.
