The autos are already over geared. The little things add up. Hills, elevation, heavy tires, more weight and next thing you know truck has trouble running 6th on the highway. I lived with it for over a year and was hoping the OV tune would work but only so much you can do. I Have appt for 4:88 gear install in 12 days. Super excited. I live at 6k and run 33 inch skinnies. My truck is still relatively light.

With 34’s I noticed the lag going uphill big time. Not so much with the 33’s. I think I could’ve lived without re-gearing on 33’s. Now that I got the 5.29 on my 34’s I am very happy I did. I barely have to press the gas to get it to go now. One of the best mods I did so far. I have a little over 100 miles left to break in the rear. Still need to do the front. Hopefully I have time this weekend to get at least 100 miles on the front. Just gonna go drive around local trails all day lol!

I have an MT, which I think is geared a little lower than AT. But how did or did not the OV Tune help you at all?

Am I reading this wrongly? It appears the MT is geared lower.

All depends how you look at it. MT has higher number, higher rotation then an AT, so they say higher. Some of us say 5.29s are low cause of slower rotation. Depends where you live and how you explain things. Roommate and I do it all the time. As for the OVTUNE comment I think he meant it helps but you can only do so much when our torque curve is in the higher RPMs.

I personally would sell my truck if not for OVTune (I did once) and get a Tundra.

MT is geared lower. People mix it up because the higher the number the lower the ratio

The Auto's are geared significantly higher than the MT. Autos have 3.91 rear. Your MT has a 4.30 rear end. The OV tune adds torque down low and power and his latest build get the Auto to hold upper gears better but with 2 overdrive gears, 6th is only turning 1794 RPM at 70 mph with 33 inch tires. Combine that with more weight, heavier tire, 6K elevation and big hills and the truck still has to downshift to 4th all the time. If I lived at sea level, I would probably be happy with just the OV tune but truck really needs gears in Denver and the mountains.

    I've gone 90 with 5.29's and 35's. I haven't hit limiter yet.

Okay my first highway run rundown. Keep in mind im fully armored and i have a 75qt dz dometic in the bed. So shes heavy. Im on 33s and at 73mph im running 2400ishrpm. Heres my reaction to my wife lol.

Im in so much love with my truck again. First time on the highway and it feels so freaking good. Feels like i dropped all the weight off it and then some. So light feeling now. Im sooooo happy with it.

Its so much nicer to drive now. When it does downshift it only goes to 5th and only on steep hills. And now that the trans isnt working so hard you can barely even tell its downshifting. Its so smooth .

Anyone running the ovtune with 5.29’s? I am getting 5.29’s on 33” tires and eventually want to do the OV tune as well. Just wondering peoples impressions with it who have lower gears and how it effects the tune etc.

For those of you who ordered complete third members through ECGS. Did they come with a new gasket for the rear? I assume they would have installed a new seal in the front, hopefully that's a safe assumption. Thanks in advance!

Nope, I reused the old gasket without issue. As long are you're careful and the gasket isn't totally dry rotted you should be fine. Or just order a new gasket, or use fipg, and not worry about it. Mine doesn't leak FWIW. The front add tube needs to be swapped from your old clamshell to the new one so you'll need some form of fipg to seal it back up.

The Rear Gasket were like $15 from a local dealer. The master rebuild kits came with black rtv no gaskets.
