backstop for bow target practice

if any of ya'll do it....what do you use for a backstop for when you are shooting your bows?

i been thinking bout using some 2x4's and making a stand, and using some thick rubber sheeting or thick canvas tarps for a back stop. what ya'll think?

 

My old roommate used to buy bales of hay from one of the local farmers. He'd usually get what they couldn't sell off really cheap.

 

damn...i hadnt even thought about hay bales. thats what we used to use. i was thinking of something a lil more permanent, but at the cheap price of hay...may get me 4 or 5 bales for the time being.

 

my bow will blast thru a bale of hay. i have one rock wall, and 3 wooden fences in my backyard. using only the solid wall, i can get 30 yards max. i feel pretty good about it..safety-wise. no high draws..ever.

you dont have a pile of dirt anywhere?..that would be perfect.

i still run to the bow range regularly.

 

i got an older pse nova(havent gotten my new bear bow yet).....but it aint super strong or fast, so hay is fine for it. no bow ranges close around here either.......you gotta pay and be a member to shoot at the ones that are within driving distance. i mark off areas yardage-wise and shoot in my back yard alot.

 

PSE nova..my brother's first bow..mine was a PSE 4x4 thunderbolt.

both of those bows shot thru hale bales in my neighborhood range..in san francisco..

cool bows. my shoulder got injured and i needed more letoff..

 

Go to your nearest farm and ranch supply and get one of the black rubber mats that they put in the bottom of a cattle trailer. I think they are 4x8x3/4". They will stop ANY arrow no matter the speed. And will last forever.

 

I use a couple bales of straw and my bow is pretty fast...

 

my shoulder is a big reason why im soon gonna get a bear bow...i need more letoff as well. bad rotator cuffs aint fun.
