I think my dash might be made out of a different material, some type of hard plastic/vinyl :notsure: I don't have the passenger airbag, perhaps that is why i dunno

You're not kidding on the value. It should just be getting broken in good now.

Maybe they had better materials for your year than mine. Yours might have color through and through as it should be. Mine is some sort of black base composite with an ever-so-thin color coat...like a wrap so to speak.

my console lid is soft material and the area on my door where I rest my elbow is soft material
    dashboard is not?

any pics of the '87 Celica you mentioned in other thread?
my buddies dad in HS had an '85 Celica GT-S black Convertible ... was a nice car but didn't let his son drive it because it was MT and he was clueless lol
he was always asking me while riding in my '78 Celica how the heck are you shifting gears this smoothly while turning these sharp right turns

    similar to this

very nice! slight body style change from the '85 but could be that it was a convertible?
I remember the Celica's started getting sort of odd looking in the 90s

Style changed in '86. I think this style went 'till 89.

... again, more gawking at the dealer. I was checking out the latest Corolla hatchback 6sp, drove back up near the front office to get the guys business card and a flock of youngsters from the salestaff had to come out in the cold wind and try to figure what year my truck was, a couple of them came real close lol. Guess this truck might be older than them and they have never seen one with all the bygone era stripes and old time headlights

i was actually waiting for one of them to say "where the heck is your antenna on that??" (i left it running, 5sp stick anti-theft device lol)

I hear you. I've been getting the Hemmings Motor News book since '87 and this month they have the '19 Tahoe Callaway with 757HP for $95,000 and the '19 Suburban Callaway 757HP for $99,000. Gees! I remember in '16 when I was shopping for a new SUV Ford wanted $53,000 for an Explorer Sport with the Eco v6. A few thousand more got me my RX350 across the street with about the same power-to-weight and much more luxury and legendary reliability and no twin turbos to worry about. American stuff's become way overpriced.

I was at the local trucksPlus shop the other day checking on some weathering services they had to offer
had to park between 2 large four door F150s (feeling little itty bitty)
the associate had the guy in charge come take a look and referred to my truck as a 'survivor'
... can't say I have heard that term used before nor what to make of it...

Still getting looks and compliments my truck is:) Brought it out last Saturday and my gal overheard two guys looking my truck over when we were at a garage sale. The words she heard was "this thing is badass". They got into a third-gen Taco and drove away:anonymous::dancingbacon:

i'm a bit jealous of you! and still trying to figure out what the heck the deal is in my locale

it could be that people around here have NO clue what they are looking at (if they even care) as there are NEAR ZERO Toyota Tacoma Trucks the age of mine around here. In the past several months I have spotted 5 to 10 on the roads with a total area wide population of nearly 1million ... 10 is such a small number! Now there maybe trucks as old as mine and not in very good overall shape located in areas of town I do not often frequent (I don't speak the language!)

On my weekend trip around most of the southern Lake Superior circle tour I was trying to spot any 1st gen Tacoma's on the roads and not many were spotted. I only saw 1 green one that was as old or older than mine somewhere on US-2 in Michigan UP. I had my oil changed at Kari Toyota in Superior WI and was chatting with the advisor and parts guy what they see around there and the neighboring Duluth MN. the winters are very brutal there and not many survived the climate is all they had to say.
Even the mechanic that was changing the oil and doing an overall safety check did not have much to say about not having seen this old of truck in decent overall condition considering the age and climate in a long time.

back to the shadows I goto hide :spy:
this crap is really getting old anymore!
should i just get into a new Tacoma and fit in like the dealer has been pestering me off and on...
i would have all the latest tech and that :) which my old truck does not

Funny. I've had a few dents and dings. Now I get more respect, especially from 30-something guys.

Funny, after a few dents and dings, I get more respect from 20-30 year olds these days .

if i let my truck get that way it would literally wither away into a pile of total garbage crap!
so its very challenging the obstacles mine has and gets near zero respect (unless its paid for!)

Funny thing is, I'm actually a little jealous of you because of where you live. My heart still longs for the midwest. Always will. My dream come true would be to own a sprawling ranch home on say two acres out there. I could deploy the baddest shortwave antennas for my radio hobby and have a real "radio shack" out in the garage:)
but far as our trucks go it could be simply a case that most folks out there still cling loyally to the American branding thing. My Mom, God rest her soul (I miss ya Mom) always called my truck "the Turd" cause of the TRD thing. She was a brand loyalist to the core. Her last vehicle was a '97 Chevy S-10 pickup and I had to help with repairs on that thing there was so much going wrong with it. All the while as my truck just kept plugging along problem-free.

yes, there is definitely a huge detroit truck following around here, but those trucks are different than the Tacoma
the Tacoma cannot pull massive trailers filled with farm stuff, horses, etc.

the local salvage yards prove it!

3 Tacomas in the lot vs perhaps 50 or more Chevy Ford Dodge

I drove an early 90s Chevy S10 (company truck) with a topper shell for work out of town before I got my truck, I know what a nasty feel those trucks are in automatics to drive hours away
