So it looks like the instrument panel lights are not on when in Auto mode, but they do come on in Parking light mode. How does everything look when in headlight on mode?

I have a 16 Tacoma limited w/auto headlights and my tail lights do not come on in auto unless the headlights come on caused by the senor. My best guess is either the auto stock was added to a taco that did not come with it stock or someone may have done one of those taillight mods and wired it differently

I see. My Tacoma has backup sensors, blind spot monitoring, sun roof and heated seats. Basically everything except the UBL enhancement.

where did you connect the ambers on the grille to? is it possible that if you tapped into a fuse that the wire is transferring power to a fuse and providing power when it shouldn't?

in that case I'd pull the tail light out and check to see if there has been any splicing done back at the factory harness

Completely possible. I think it was the green driver side headlight wire.
