I'd look over your wiring harnesses looking for anything that may be chewed, if nothing is visible then I'd remove the taillights and check for any splicing or mods done there.. If that didn't yield any possible leads then you'd need to check the a wiring diagram to try and diagnose if the issue is with the switch or within the wiring harness.. and if its in the harness determining where the issue lies. Try and swap the relay for the taillights.. maybe a relay that's sticking?

So, I'm not very smart. Do you mean fuses when you say relays?

the reason I say sticking is because relays have a tab inside that when charged with electrical current pops/moves causes the tab to make contact with the pins that require current.. If you ever listen next to the relays you can usually hear then click when power is applied

if you find the relay for the tail lights.. try and swap it with a different relay that's the same.. the relay will have a pattern on it that show the pins and how power transfers to it. If this somehow was the issue then you can just replace the relay that you moved

you wont be able to tell if its bad from a pic.. you would need to test it to check that its operating as it should.. if you swap it with one that's the same you can quickly rule out that its an issue. if no change occurs then its probably not bad

at this point you need to check the taillights for any modifications if none then you need to determine where the rear lights are getting power from is it before the relay or after. is it after the switch or before. this will help determine if there are any breaks in the wiring and in what section. also if anything has been spliced in then this would also narrow down the portion of the wiring where this may have occurred
