    OME and worth every penny.
Did you make sure the rear end had enough oil in it to leak any more?

I checked before I drove it home from the lot. Just a little low. All is good!
I think anyone else who bought the truck would have just ran it till something bad happened.
I'm no expert but I do pay attention to things.

A little something every chance we get.
Hi @Druss2012 OP, not going to give you more advice (I recently had Toyota do my rear diff fluids, because I have no record of such, and will shortly be replacing and relocating the diff breather. It is cheap and easy, and I am not dripping anywhere.) But, if you would like to have records of ANY Toyota service done on your truck, go here,

    https://www.toyota.com/owners/my-vehicle/service-history

Provide your VIN and such, and all records they have will appear for you! It's free. I have 195K, and I am 4th owner, so the info I have from that has been invaluable to me. Good luck, and I hope it's all fixed by now.

Fluid to fill hole is overfilled, and when the diff gets up to 200+ degrees, it will expand considerably. This is where the pressure comes from if the vent isn't working well.

The manual's 3.x qts is bullshit, at least on E-locker diffs. At 3 even the fill hole starts to dribble. I usually go about 2.8 or 2.9.

That’s good to know, thanks. Mine is a mechanical LSD. Does that still apply with 2.8-9 ?

Not sure. Without the e-locker assembly, which takes up space and leaves less room inside the axle housing, it might actually take 3+. It sure doesn't with the locker though.

2016 Taco Double Cab at 42K miles-

Was trying to change my rear diff oil last weekend. Filler plug came out normal, but the drain plug was the tightest I've ever experienced. Of course once I broke it lose it just spins and spins and spins. The built in drain plug protector housing makes it impossible to shove a small screw driver under the bolt, so I drilled a small hole in the protector housing since it's welded on, it won't cause issues with the diff/rear end itself (in my opinion).

I think the bolt will need to be tapped and hopefully the threads in the diff are good. There is an option for a Heli-Coil, but then metal could get inside.

Point of the story, you never know what the previous owner will do to our Tacos. A simple gear oil swap turned into a pretty moderate headache with a Taco out of commission.

Ending up having to replace my rear axle

53k on the used one being installed
Rear brakes and drums being done
throwing some A/T's on and getting ready for winter

Toyota wants 3250$, getting all this done for less then that. Still some good money though.
