It was actually a family friend who was detecting with my aunt. The pics above are of the pendant my aunt found on the same day. All I know right now is he sent it back east somewhere and the initial estimate was 50-75K! At first she thought it was 25-50k. I’m pretty sure she said 1871. I can she if she found anything else out since. It’s only been about 1.5 months since they found it.

Great find!!! I’d be proud of that one for sure. I get excited when I find a quarter that someone dropped on the sidewalk let alone something that was dropped over 100 years ago.

You should dust off that detector and get to swinging! Sounds like you found a Barber quarter. Very cool! That's on my list of coins I'd like to find!

Thank you! It is really cool just to imagine where this coin has travelled, and with whom.
Funny how that works, picking up modern coins that you find. I mean, who would stop and pick up a cent?? :anonymous: Certainly not me.....

"Good" and "Cheap". You'll prolly get one or the other...
What size pellets/shot are you trying to recover? I have a Whites ($150ish) that I could test on some pellets. My buddy just picked up a Garrett ($125) that has very good reviews.

The pendant is really cool, but just a touch out of focus (to my 53 year old eyes...). I think the following Wiki article is relevant:

Yeah I’m an avid runner and I see change pretty often. I stop and pick up any change I see... yes even a penny. It’s even a better score when it’s a pre 1973 penny.

Usually it's #7 tungsten shot. Do you think either of those will work??

Prolly not. My Whites could maybe detect a #6 shot, at best.

A quick trip to western Nevada turned up a cool find. My partner found a 1904 S Morgan dollar.

I scratched up a 1902 Liberty Head nickel today. It is showing its age...

No haven’t followed up with my aunt about it. I can check with her this week to see what info he got back from the appraisal. I’m sure they’ve been out since the last find. I think she said they go 1x a month or so.

Hit the local beach this morning at first light. Got some coffee money under the volleyball nets. :bananadance:o_O

As I was leaving, a couple showed up with detectors.
I waved and said good morning, and all I got was the grunt/scowl and dirty look.
Ahh, Detector camaraderie at its finest.

Had the small coil on but think I'll switch back to the bigger coil for beach duty.

    Nice morning to be out...

Good for you! Looks like a good day to be out swinging!

Don't pay any mind to the scowllers, some people are never happy.
