They (Best Buy) also have some of the kicker amps on sale as well (also discontinued maybe?). I might go for this since I can also get a good deal on an amp! Starting to dig into what I can get...

You'll need mounting adapters. Best Buy asks if you want them as you check out. Alternatively you can get them on Amazon.

    JeffB, Happy to help.

I haven't ordered the mounting rings yet, not sure Best Buy had the best price on those. I need to surf around.

Since these are the same speakers the author of this thread recommended, I feel like I've stepped in shit. (good).

I think the recommended tweeters are shrill and the Kickers don't provide the balance needed. Anyway, I bought and installed the subject "kit" a year or so ago and my driver side woofer has quit working. Because I am dismayed with the sound, I went looking for new front speakers. On Crutchfield, I found this note:
    • The front tweeters and the door woofers are wired together at each tweeter location. If you remove or replace the tweeters, you'll have to splice the input and output wires together to keep the woofers working.
Any idea what they mean? My driver side speaker died a slow fizzling death and I am unsure the cause.

The audio goes from the radio, to the tweeter, then to the door speaker.

The tweeter has 4 wires in its plug. 2 are +/- from the radio, and 2 are +/- of the door speaker

But if you replace them with the suburu kicker tweeters you don't have to splice anything, correct?

Is it possible then that the failure of my speaker could be related to the connection at the tweeter? I did replace the OEM tweeters with the shrill Subaru units.

I won’t rule it out, but I don’t think it’s likely. The connection at the tweeter is super basic (no crazy pass-throughs or nonsense) and it’s more of a “it works or it doesn’t” thing.

As a complete novice in the stereo world, will this cover the font and rear speakers? I am looking just to do a basic upgrade as my stereo and speakers are shot, nothing fancy.

These speakers will cover the front doors and rear doors, but the dash tweeters are not included and are a separate purchase. Are you looking to do the upgrade on your '06 (Gen2)? I believe this thread is for Gen3 Tacos, as it mentions dash tweeters. If yours is a Gen2, then as far as the door speakers are concerned, you could try is checking compatibility by model year via the Crutchfield web site.

Crutchfield has good discounts on Kicker speakers now for those looking to upgrade

Also - if anyone has the correct current model numbers / links to the proper Kicker speakers (since mine were installed in 2017) feel free to PM and I'll update OP

Are the Subaru tweeters the way to go or just the easiest? Crutchfield has replacements for the dash speakers for about half the price. Anyone try these?

    @WesLikesTacos

I installed the Subaru tweeters(grabbed from local Subaru dealer for $100) in about 30 minutes, taking my time as the truck is only days old. The difference is definitely noticeable when comparing to stock tweeters. Other than the Subaru tweeters, all other speakers are stock. I hook up with Apple Music via usb, and most of the music I play ends up putting me in the 40-46 volume range. At this level, the front 6x9s thump pretty well, and the Subaru tweeters are noticeably more crisp. Overall, the tweeters add volume, albeit not much. For $100 and total plug-and-play, I’m absolutely voting for these tweeters. Somewhere in this thread, the tweeters are said to have been kicker KS series. To me, there’s no harshness about them and they sound better than stock, not to mention they just clip right in, 100% plug-and-play. Worth it IMO. Reviews are mixed for the kicker door speaker upgrade so I’m holding off...holding..

Right on. Thanks. The kicker door speaker upgrade seems to be pretty well liked. Has there been some push back on it? I have found that there is a csc model that seems to be less expensive but the stats on it seem to be better. But I'm no way a car audio guy... Just someone that wants to hear biggie in the morning and Jason Mraz on the way home.

I haven’t read anything about this other option as of yet. I have s Subaru and know the sound to be pretty good, so when I heard about the Subaru tweeter fitting my new truck, I jumped on it!
