Think about that for a bit, and you'll answer your own dumb question.

650 lbs coils quickly unloading to full extension make quite the clunk. Crawling you won't notice anything, nor would it cause much of a problem. The issue arises when you start pushing the suspension and driving fast.

Is this something that is unique to ADSs?

I am trying to relate this to my own experiences. If I remove the lower shock bolt, my LCAs droop a good 1" further than the shock. It has never caused a clunk.

No. Driver faster and tell me what your Kings sound like. If the front suspension isn't unloaded dozens of times a trip, you're doing it wrong. :D

Yes. The spring is not fully unloaded at full extension.

I edited my post above to add that my LCAs drop at least an 1" further than the shocks. I've done my share of high speed dirt. No unexplained clunks specific to that.

Different shocks for sure. I have the short body 8" ones on Frank. Not sure I have a pn for either though are they stamped somewhere?

Haha....yeah...think hard about that for a second..

I can also confirm this. My king's don't make a chunk and I beat mine hard. But the ads have made a few chunks.

Possibly different internal bump setup perhaps.

Why do you think we have different shocks? (or were you referring to the LT being different?)

PN for me was on the invoice.

I can imagine that different valving at the tail end of the stroke could cause this. I never had clunks (or very rarely) with the Toytecs. (Edit: and I think that the Toytecs were technically a bit shorter.) Could be much firmer valving at the end of the stroke to protect the internals?

Because it needs an 8" travel shock and the ones in oem are like 6-6.6" haha you can't use the same shock in long travel as mid travel they aren't long enough. 14" wheel travel doesn't just come from longer a arms.

Hmm lemme look. I got mine through Matt so not sure the on was on there .

These shocks don't have different valving for different positions that the Piston is at. Only bypass shocks do that. Pistons otherwise are shaft speed dependent.

Yeah, OK - I thought you were saying that you and I for sure had different shocks on our mid-travel variety. I get the LT being different, of course. I'm actually a little surprised that it's only 1.5" different. For some reason, I thought it would have been more. (Not that it matters for me, since I'm not going there until you get a GFC.)
I thought the whole point of various flutter stacks, re-valving, etc. (Note: I have no idea about this terminology and am just regurgitating what I feel like I've heard around the camp fire.) was to control the speed of the shaft at different points in the stroke. Is that only on compression?

It's less Tacoma and more mod
The ratio isn't 1:1, you know levers and fulcrum placement and such haha.

And you're right, those things do control shaft speed and reaction but they're dependant on shaft speed, not on position like a bypass.

Ah. Sorry no, Im sure I have the same shock as you do on Igor. Frank of course has the LT one. Its a long shock, but not much due to the limits of the space(stock coil bucket) so its a short body. Then combined with the longer arms you net the 14'' of travel.

So I have to get a GFC and you'll get LT/35s/supercharger? Deal.

    No no no.

The valve stack only affects oil moving through the piston based on shaft speed and shaft speed alone. Bypasses allow oil to Bypass the piston in different locations. Thus you can have different tuning in different areas of the shock by adjusting how much oil is bypassed the piston. This is because the piston valving isn't dynamic. Okay well it sort of is, but its not dynamic in the sense you can easily change it with a clicker or bypass adjuster nut.

It is dynamic in terms of the shaft speed. The different shims are stacked in a pyramid.

    see here

[IMG]Igor-20.jpg by Monte Nickles Photos, on Flickr

The faster the fluid flows the more pressure they put on the stack. So slow speed =low pressure on the shims so only the first 1 or 2 shims are used lets say. a hard hit means faster speed = high pressure so you'll potentially use the full stack. That means more back pressure on the oil to slow it down.

Thats how different valving works sort of.

Filthy motorsports have some great videos on youtube talking about shocks and tuning.

that is true as well. Lever ratio is much different on a LT kit for sure. Lower mount is pushed out so the angle is increased.

I think it's not as much if a pipe dream. Really once they figure out how to make hydrogen efficiently, it'll be game over for most other types of energy. That's the only thing holding it back. Once that's solved, it'll be a race to implement. It'll be cheaper than gas, faster and more convenient then batteries, and better for the environment.

But will be cool to see a 4wd ev that's worth it. Hopefully doesn't cost 150k..

Probably. I just wish companies wouldnt even bother with batteries. They aren't effective, bad for the environment, and hasn't had a major break through in tech in a long time.

Like why pour billions into it when you could do that for hydrogen to get it going and then reap the rewards.

    Ice? What?

Not surprised at all. They do that constantly.

There was a guy that invented a microwave that would extract all hydrocarbons from whatever you out in it. So plastics, tires, all that shit we throw away. Bam, get all the hydrocarbons back, and it runs of some of the methane it produces. Oil companies didn't like that. Why we've never heard of it.

I could use an event to commute but only because we have a charger at Tippet. And I'd need awd and decent ground clearance. Won't ever likely make financial sense to do that though for a long time
