Let's talk Icon's new Delta Joint

Have all that sitting in my garage waiting to go on. Ceramic Coating it all first as the Salt Belt sucks

Nice! How much preload are you planning to Put on the shocks? I only put 9 threads showing on driver and 7 on passenger. The ride is pretty plush

 

None right now, it lifted the front 4” without preload. The stock springs were sagging. They are 700lbs springs. Just ordered a demello front bumper so we shall see if I need to add preload then.

 

What is needed to grease the delta joint? There was a small zerk fitting included but I think you can grease the delta joint how it is but need some special adapter? Anyone know what needs to be used to great the delta point?

 

I just ordered the DJ retrofit kit to replace the uniballs on my icon arms - any tricks for doing this without removing the arms from the truck?

 

I don't know if you can or can't but maybe Erick from @state48overland can he know a lot about this

Could it be done on the vehicle- it could, but it really helps to be able to rotate it around and visually check the alignment when you start pressing it in. You can use a hydraulic press or those ball joint style C clamps--the bigger ones. I would remove it from the vehicle to be on the safer side.

 

My theory would be if it's time to replace the uni-balls then it is probably not a bad time to replace or at the very least inspect the bushings on the UCA as well so you just pull everything apart, do a full maintenance on it and you're good to go for the next however many miles.

 

Anyone with Delta Joints experiencing this issue? When screwing in the zerk fitting to the top of the housing (Cap) protecting the joint it spins. Major issue as I can't tighten the zerk fitting into the housing. Just wondered if anyone else had that issue. Only having the issue with one side...

The kit comes with a standard zerk and a special needle zerk. I put the standard zerk in.

I used the C-clamp style rental balljoint kit from whatever auto parts store with the Icon UCA still on the truck. It was a little tedious because I had to keep swapping out the adapters as clearances would change so it wasn't just press and done. However, I don't think it was too bad. I had a heck of a time popping the original uniballs out, when they broke loose, they really broke loose. No harm done though and got the deltajoints pressed in just fine. No other special tools needed.

Optimal? Heck no. Doable? Absolutely



I am really loving my DJ Retrofits. The original Uniballs were shot and had tons of slop in them and squeaked like crazy. These DJ are silent and solid. NO issues and definitely satisfied!

 

I actually left the needle zerk. Since I got the caps to cap off the delta joint for extra protection. I think the standard zerk will have clearance issues with the Icon protection cap.

Hey guys fairly new member on here and had a question, I'm getting the toyotec/ bilstein 3' coilovers soon and was looking for ucas and found a brand new icon delta uca with the top caps for $650, think it's worth it? Or should I get something different?

 

If you're in the salt belt then it will most likely be worth it of uniball UCAs. I just installed a set last week. 650 is a deal.

 

So - I just installed DJ's in to my UCAs over the weekend. All in all it wasn't too bad. I had to bring them to a shop to get pressed in with a floor press since the C-press I rented wasn't big enough to use with the adapter tube from Icon.

I also tried to remove the little low profile grease fitting that Icon includes but for the life of me cannot get it out (and now it's all stripped to hell).

I did get one of the needle grease fittings but it seems like no grease is going in to the joint - maybe a tiny bit if anything at all. Is this normal?

They are silent though - my uniballs required weekly lubing which was getting very old. They do not limit travel either.

We'll see how they do off - road but I think they'll be just as good as uniballs.

On another note - I greased the UCA bushings once without loosening the bolt and didn't realized it but I wrecked a bushing. So kids... Loosen your UCA bolt before greasing!

 

After reading all 13 pages of this thread I’m about to pull the trigger on the Icon tubular arms with delta joints. Any more reviews on the joints over long term use? I know the bushings call for lithium grease and the joints call for moly grease. Any brands that people recommend that has been working for them? Would you guys recommend using the protective top caps or would I be fine leaving the standard type zerk fitting on and capping it with a vacuum cap? Also, is there a standard amount of grease to be applied into the delta joint?

 

does anyone know where an install guide is? icon directions suck.... and im currently sitting my my garage at 9:30pm with my truck ripped apart. ughhh

 

What are you struggling with?

 

There are two large washers that go through the pivot bolt on top. Do those go back in or stay out?

When I torque that down, the UCA gets super tight and hard to move.

I put one washer back in on the right side to show you, they were obviously on both sides. I originally left them out.

 

I just got these a few days ago, I'm going to try and install them today. I bought the ball joint C clamp kit from harbor freight and now I don't know if I should try and install the DJs with it or pull the whole arms off and have a shop press in the DJs in. Also, if I do that does anyone know where or what bushings to get for the Icon Tubular control arms? Should I use oem bushings or do they have to be from Icon?
