This thread is for replacing OEM Plastic With Metal. That's it.
    -
Our 2016-2020 Tacoma body components are worth thousands of dollars and are fragile.
There's a solid chance most of us have thought about upgrading our OEM front/rear bumper and bolt/weld on some structural steel/alum. to protect your sexy beast before we hit a sideways rut into an Aspen or someone thinks it's cute to parallel park up against you multiple times and crack your $1,783.48 bumper. Yay.
No Joke, I added it all up and my 2017 TRD Off-Road 4x4 Quicksand rear bumper w/ tow package and BSM is worth $2,386.40 and I cannot wait to rip it off and sell it to protect my investment.
    -
    Please post:
1.) What you upgraded with (Winch Bumpers, Rock Sliders, Rear/High Clearance Bumpers etc.)
2.) How you went about selling your OEM components.
3.) Any Difficulties/Complaints/Constituents with Upgrades and Insights for Others.

*As of now, I want to start with ripping off the rear bumper with sensors and tow package, sell it for $$$, cut the left and right side fairings and weld on the CBI high clearance bumpers to the frame with 2" tow receiver..

Next, Rock sliders with kickout then move to the front hidden winch bumper..

    -

    Thank you all in advance

Why would you weld on a "bolt on" rear bumper? o_O

Nobody wanted my stock parts. You need to start looking at suspension for increased weight .

Demello front bumper I bought through @state48overland (holding out on the rear bumper)
    @Mobtown Offroad skids
    RCI sliders w/plates

I sold pretty much everything I needed/wanted to sell on here or FB Marketplace.

You shouldn’t need to weld anything, everything bolts on.

Read before you start the install. Use YouTube. Measure multiple times before cutting. Leave bolts/nuts loose until all are in place and you have what you’re installing positioned where it needs to be.

You’ll get amazing customer service from Erick at State48Overland and Joe at Mobtown. I’ve read threads where CBI is lacking in that department. *Disclaimer* I have no personal experience with them but I do a lot of research before I go dropping cash with a fab shop. Especially after the screwing Pelfreybilt gave everyone.

Almost no one will want your stock plastic parts.

You might be able to sell a reverse sensor or two but those are only worth like $20.

Wasn't sure if all high clearance rear bumpers were boly on or weld-on. Have only seen the CBI ones so far. Would rather bolt than weld for future repairs.

Guess I'll just start parting it out then like the guys on eBay getting $2k eventually for all the parts.
Sure as hell not throwing flawless, crazy expensive OEM parts away

A quick google search found the complete bumper listed for $195-250.

We are not trying to be unproductive, we are trying to help you see that you will not get a high end aftermarket bumper for free by selling your oem bumper to cover the cost. You might get $300 for all of the above. Maybe a little more if you find an idiot. But either way, you will not get $2k.

Just because you do not like the information we give you, it does not mean we are trying to give you a hard time. These are expensive parts but they make 100,000 of those trucks a year. They are not uncommon and the market is flooded.

Not even close to $2K unless you wait for that perfect sucker. But good luck tho.

    None as of yet
2k from a dealer selling at msrp.
    Maybe 200 street value.
The only people who would want an oem bumper are ones who crunched theirs already and most of the time they will go through insurance or buy an aftermarket steel one. Supply greatly out numbers demand. In 15 years it may go the other way but would you really hold onto them that long to make $300 instead of $200?

Also most aftermarket parts are going to be bolt on. I would advise you to avoid welding to the frame in general. Just opens a can of worms with a relatively new truck.

If you're adamant about welding something you can go the DIY route like myself. Finished up my sliders and bumpers may be in the works.

The only item of value is the BSM but like others have said anyone looking for those parts are either going through insurance to replace them, being replaced with aftermarket, or are being replaced through warranty.

You asked the question OP and got a response. Just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean it’s not productive.

What I did with my plastic bits from my truck, I literally threw them in the trash bin.

Msrp of the parts new is irrelevant at this point, you’re better off buying the replacement bumpers then throwing the stockers on Craigslist and being very patient while you wait for the $3-500 to be made from the sale of the stock stuff. I threw mine in the dumpster because they weren’t in perfect shape and it’s not worth my time to wait around and meet a potential buyer only to be jewed down on my already low price. It sounds like a good idea in theory, but if it really worked that way everyone would have replacement bumpers!

Lol at investment protection. I wouldn’t mind some more plastic stuff, as I break it I replace it. Lightweight and flexible. I’ll give you 40 buck (scrill) if you can ship to the island of Crete.

Your quest to build an unbreakable thing is funny tho

I see you are new here.

Anyway here is my truck with 3 pieces of armor.

Cbi aluminum front bumper with mid hoop, 4x innovation weld-on rock sliders with kick out and ATH steel rear high clearance bumper with swing arm.
