The same tune is likely to be applicable regardless of 87 or 91 if you go with a tune in NA config. The PCM will make the mild adjustments it needs in order to run the 87 or vice versa to 91 octanes. Smog program will never know if your PCM is flashed or not as they are just looking for codes, checking monitors and performing a visual inspection.

Is your county or general part of California still conducting smogs on a dyno at 15 and 25? They are not doing that up here anymore for models 2000 and up and I assumed that was applied throughout California.

Ebay is where you need to go if you want one, as Amazon will not sell one of these to us Californians.

Main reason i'm keeping it is for the guardian protection. I have had issues in the past with my truck going lean on one bank and although i tracked down the issue as the UCon and it was replaced, it has left me really paranoid about running a tune without any engine protection in place. I will likely swap to a HP tuned version of the TRD tune, but for now im going to sit back and wait until there are some refined tunes out there for folks with the S/C & the 6spd.

I am also keeping it because i am running water/meth injection, and the UCon can adjust fueling at WOT when that is spraying. It runs excessively rich with TRD tune and meth injection

Lol yes, UCon. I worked 6 months to get it to run my truck right. I have too much invested in it to dump it now. Might as well get some of my moneys worth out of it :D

At least until something better comes along for the m/t s/c trucks

I would love to put the Whipple on the 4R but I don't want the UCON, deal breaker. I heard back from HPT only saying they will pass the request on to engineering for support.

**I'm moving Cam Gear orders here: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/cnc-machined-1gr-fe-exhaust-cam-gears-3°-retard.605925/ **

Ok folks.. I’m going to announce it here before going Tacomaworld wide.

We are a GO for cam gears at this time. I’ve located a sprocket and gear manufacturer who is making 1GR-FE exhaust cam gears with the 3° retard built in just as the APR/URD gears do.

"The exhaust cam gears retard the exhaust gear timing by 3° in relation to crank angle. Allowing the cylinders to empty more completely on the exhaust stroke. On the intake stroke the cylinders will fill with more air and fuel increasing the overall volumetric efficiency of the engine. There will also be less hot exhaust gas left heating the incoming air and fuel and reducing it's knock potential. This is very advantageous with forced induction conversions."

They will be fully CNC machined out of 4140 alloy and heat treated for durability.

The gears will be ready in 3 weeks. I’m having 25 sets made for this initial batch.

Gears will ship via USPS Priority.

    $160 per set, shipped.

I’m requiring a $75 deposit via PayPal to reserve your set. (justdsm at g mail dot com) Reserving your set will ensure that you receive a set on the first batch. I'll happily take orders, but those with paid deposits will be guaranteed gears. Non-paid users will be able to purchase any that are left after those with deposits get their gears.

That is where I got mine just make sure the seller is offering the module with universal credits.

I'm just giving you a hard time bud. That's totally fair!

Normally I'm not one who likes to sort of stuff, but the price is cheap and I can hang onto it until I'm ready to do it, so put me in!

Have you ever run the UCon? i will admit, all the issues people post about on here, including my own experiences, dont make it an appealing option, so i dont blame you for wanting to steer clear of it. I do like how it's running the truck though right now. It's a lot smoother running meth/water injection with the UCon vs with TRD tune. Shifting is a lot less harsh, not sure why that was happening with the TRD tune, but it was also running overly rich with that.

If there was a whipple for the tacos, and UCon was the only tuning solution for it, i'd probably still run it

Good point but I do remember the troubles you were having at Roost's casa. I have ran the piggyback on the 1st gen for years and kind of tired of the limitations. With the UCON you still have to have them remote tune, I want control and flash capability like this.

Gotcha, yeah definitely wasnt trying to start an argument, just was wondering if you had bad experiences with UCon at any point. Those were good times lol.. Fought that darn thing for too long. I do agree, being able to tune it yourself is very nice. Im looking to maybe run a slightly modified ECU w/ my UCon to try and get the best of both worlds. I do see myself swapping over at some point though

not everyone has had issues with the ucon. it has worked perfectly for me since installing it back in 2013. Is HP Tuners a better solution? probably but sometimes if things arent broke, no point in fixing it.

I'm having a hard time convincing myself I don't need this. I've had the mpvi2 + software suit in cart for about 2wks now just haven't entered payment info yet to complete the process. :goingcrazy:

I don't think I can hold out any longer seeing that cam gears are available now too! @JustDSM would NA guys see a benefit from installing those? Or are they more suited for the F/I setups? I've got a spare set of stock cam gears off my old motor that I have been contemplating modifying but $160 is worth it to avoid me messing it up.
