Which may or may not be what the OP likes to drive. I say go back and drive them all and see what he likes.

I cant tell you what he likes, you probably cant either, only he knows what he likes.

The perception that the 19 has the same issues as the 16. It doesn’t.

if you plan to keep it stock or not go much weight on the tacoma
Get the nitro 4.88 gears and i think that will solve all the issues you felt between 2nd gen and 3rd gen

I never thought my 16 had issues, still don't believe it does. It's been the best of the 5 toyotas I've owned.

Have had no need to take it in for a reflash.

That's fine. For you, the issue is "perceived." For others, the issue is "real."

We all have different perspectives on this topic.

That's why there's different trucks to buy, to satisfy people who have "issues" with one truck or another.

    I think we're done here. :D

Geez everyone wants to argue with the truck having or not having a problem.

I get it, when i bought my 2016 3 years ago, thats just what the truck was. Im not debating that (maybe my mistake, but let’s avoid the term “issue” and just say it drive differently than my 2nd gen).

So, again. From 2016-2019 did Toyota change anything in regards to the way the truck handles the power. It seems like a software update may have “addressed” this. Its most likely i got rid of the truck in 2018 prior to the last software update.

So, it seems its worth a test drive at the very leat to see if the truck performs better than it had when I previously owned it.

Truck is same same. If you didn’t like it then you won’t like it now. Probably worth waiting for a 4th gen or exploring other manufacturers

Different people have different opinions. I didn't know we had started anything to begin with, but I don't see why you're getting snappy with someone for having a different opinion than your own.

Not true. That software flash was like pouring a morning pot of coffee in the tank. Very very noticeable.
    Especially ect mode.

Not snappy at all, just saying some people dont like what other people do. We can only decide what we like for ourselves and tell someone why we like something. It doesnt mean we'll change their minds.

Said we were probably done because the topic has now been resolved, let the OP choose what he likes because only he can tell us if it is or isnt a Taco regardless of what we think of ours.

FYI, their is no issues with the 3rd gen transmission. It was made to behave the way it does. I completely LOVE my 2018 truck and is a major upgrade from any gen Tacoma imho.
:mudding:Just because some people say they are not satisfied with some things, it doesn't make it a "legitimately issue" My .02

I agree, only i can make the decision and the vast majority of these comments are useless. I do appreciate those that looked past my wording of “issues” and answered the question asked.

The fact is Toyota did make a change to the software mid 2018. I will now give it a test ride and determine for myself if I am pleased with the way it drives. If not, i willd decide of a late model 2nd gen is what i want or if there is something better out there for the price.

2nd Gens will never be able to pass a 3rd once moving. Nor tow as well. Much less hp. That's why I like 3rd gen. Don't get the neck snap off the line for a second or two but when running all day long it's a blast when it kicks.
Plus 2nds look very very outdated these days.
