Is the Icon suspension supposed to be smoother with stiffer tires?

I had Goodyear Duratrac load range C tires before. I got them replaced under warranty but they installed the same tire but in load range E by mistake.

However my Icon suspension seems to work better with the load range E tires. It's is smoother and soaks up bumps better.

I wonder if this is just with the Icon suspension? I have 10k miles on the E's and they still ride really smooth. I don't remember my C's ever riding this nice even when brand new. The E's even have more tire pressure than the C's.

huh, I wouldn't think that this would be the case...E rated tires are stiff as hell. I run them too because they're near bulletproof on most any terrain, but on the street at 35 psi they are brutal even with Kings.

Offroad aired down to 12-15psi they're great though.

Maybe your C rated tires were overinflated making them feel too stiff?

Nope. The thing is I usually had 32-34 PSI in the C's. Now I have 40 PSI in the E's. People have said you're supposed to have more air pressure in E's.

I'm might even bump up it a little more to see how behaves.

C's absorb stuff and keep the suspension from showing much small movement on road. E's are far less compliant, so they transfer that stress to the suspension making it work for you. combining E's at low pressure and a balanced setup (i run Fox with a high caster alignment) is the best drive ever for me... on road.

I’ve ran 255/80r17 st maxx (e-load) and currently 285/70r17 BFG KO2 (c-load) and the BFG ride considerable better on the same stage 4 Icon suspension. One of the reasons you just have to go with what you like, everyone has a different opinion on what “feels good” to them.

I do not like excessively soft or stiff ride. My "feel good" ride is something is soft enough to soak up bumps and pot holes but stiff enough not to ride like a marshmallow or have a lot body roll. So far this seems to be working.

That is really strange. I don't recommend E rated tires on a Tacoma. Everything in the suspension has a job to do, and the tires are supposed to absorb the little stuff.
