Oh man this hit home. I had that happen to me in my 2004 TL. Outside of that though, the car was a tank.

Fix it and then trade it in. That motor will have issues forever. Good luck with it, I truly hope it all works out for you.

What makes you think it will have issues forever? I don't think there is anyone on this forum that can predict the future. Do you know how many replaced valves, rebuilt heads, honed cylinders, etc. there are still running in this world? Keep in mind, this job is not going to the oil change guy or the tire guy, this is going to the high paid, trained and retrained, certified technician.

It will blow up and pieces will fly out the side of the block in a fiery death. Just you wait and see.

I’ve seen a truck come back like this, stuck in the low side letting er coast down a hill. Let the clutch out in a panic to try and slow down, disintegrate the bell housing, see the pass side tire through the block from the driver side. Holes in the hood and cab that looked like someone was shooting a gun from underneath it. Tires all full of engine parts and flat along with the cars behind it. Truly a work of art
It was a 60 Series Detroit in a Freightliner though.

Those head studs are only "torque to yield" and "required" when it's on your dime. Toyota is no different than any other make when pinching pennies on warranty repairs, and one of the worst when it comes to flat out denying a problem. Those reused head studs will get you out of warranty and beyond. Case closed as far as they're concerned, however, if you had approached them for a paid repair it would have been a different story.

In this case. I would consider paying for new studs. Is it just parts expense? If cheap - I’d ask them to use new studs and pay parts cost.
