So Ive been riding around in our loaner 2019 T4R while the 08 awaits its frame, and Ive noticed a few things. First one being why hasn't Toyota updated the interior of this thing? The infotainment screen is still just as tiny as it was 5 years ago, and overall it just doesn't feel "new" or up to current standards. Also, its got a 1GR pushing Goodyear Duratrac 32's that gets better mileage than the 08 on stock highway tires. Same engine, only difference is manual vs. auto. What gives?

The 1GR in the runner has dual VVTi which really wakes it up (25-35hp over the taco version) and keeps it efficient while cruising. The runner makes very good use of those 5 (or 6) speeds it has, much more efficient nowadays than a manual driver. Most people think they drive a manual efficiently, but they're actually driving it more to suit themselves. An auto enforces the regime so you usually get better mileage... Plus the new autos are stupid efficient, makes the old ones like the a340 look like antiques for wasting so much fluid energy.

I’m still thinking @boostedka is right and it should fit with the couplers

Im not gonna argue that manuals get better mileage than autos cause I agree with you there. I wonder why Toyota didn't drop that powertrain in to the Taco during the 2011 refresh?

Got my battery tied down tight with a rubber strap, hooked one end to the inner fender and the other to a small hole under the battery tray. No more zip ties or moving battery, cost me $4. Doesn't look half bad

I don't know why, the Taco never got the dual VVTi version, even the FJ had it from release though

I have some of those in an old Point of Sale keyboard haha, they aren't bad. I like Browns and Reds the most. Blue make a fuckload of noise but not enough tactile feel

Those are nice and maybe next group buy I'll be able to justify it but for now Ive got too many other things I need to spend money on with the truck to justify a battery holder that costs that much, don't get me wrong they look great though and Id love to have one some day

Clear is less noisy than blue, but brown feels like nothing. I’ve had them all and refuse to use anything but clears now. Typing on a non manual keyboard at work feels super plebeian. I almost wanna come in with my own keyboard from time to time

It’s expensive no doubt. I can say it’s one of the nicest things in my engine bay.

Lol yeah we'll see...I'm a little worried about that. I did leave one zip tie in place just in case it doesn't work. Next trail run I'm going to keep a close eye on it.

Yeah I saw he had a bare aluminum one left for 70 I think? The colored ones with the imprints on them are more $$
