I owned a 59 Chevy Apache as my first vehicle in High School. My second was a Dodge Ram 1500 (turd). I've owned a Jeep and then a 2004 F-150 Lariat, which failed due to an over-retarded cam phaser at 90k. After that I went Toyota and bought a 2009 Tundra and swapped the Jeep for a Hundred series Landcruiser. After I sold the Tundra I bought a 2014 TX Baja Taco and I won't ever go back to anything but Toyota.

lol not even close! First car was a Dodge Dart Swinger then a Mustang GT 5.0 and then
the Nissan Frontier in 1988, never looked back at cars after that.

I've had every make for the last 30 yrs. Ford, Chevy, GMC, Dodge, Nissan &
    Toyota...in both full and mid-size on every make...except a Ridgeline(it's just too fuk'n ugly) :D

It's my 4th truck. The only other vehicle I owned was in between trucks I thought a 4Runner would be a cool idea...that did not last long.

It is my first truck, loving it. Been driving Jeep Wranglers the last 16 years, and then a variety of cars before that.

Although extremely unreliable my old school ford rangers were impossible to beat for the price. Paid no more than 2k used. Plus the ford 4x4 twin I beams make 14" of 4x4 travel possible under $2000 (including the cost of 14" coil overs).

Making a LT kit for my 2018 4x4 taco will probably cost $3500 plus many, many, many, weekends.

Got a 2019 TRD OR DCSB in November and it is the first truck I have ever owned.

However, my dad has a 2007 4x2 Tacoma that I put about 20k miles on. Always wanted one and couldn't be happier...as long as I don't look at the MPG.

It’s my first proper truck. Had a Subaru Brat for my first vehicle. That thing was equal parts awful and awesome!

First truck was a 1989 S-10, 4.3 automatic V6. Slammed. Fuckin truck was bad ass. Could burn the tires off that MF.
Second truck was a 1998 Ford Ranger. Ordered it new. 4.0, extended cab. Owned her for 20 years, sold her to my best friends son, his first vehicle. Absolutely great truck.
If my new Tacoma lives up to these 2 trucks I will be happy.

First truck here. I've had some type of SUV/SAV the last 15 years, but I really wanted to get a truck so that my daughter and I can have some fun outdoors.

I have a 2019 TRD sport 2X4 and don’t have a problem with the tranny. I think it works fine and am satisfied with the overall performance of the truck. The 4X4’s may behave differently because of the 4 wheel drive system and extra weight. Also, bigger tires and lifts. Just my .02.

Not bashing on the auto but my 6MT has no problem maintaining speed. Maybe trade for a manual?

Yeah the Tacoma I have now is my first truck and it might be the last Tacoma I own. Don't get me wrong I love it but If I ever decide to get a new truck I'll most likely go with something a bit bigger.

7 pages in, I am late to the thread but it was fun to skim through it. Very interesting to see patterns. I am not much into my cars or trucks (or am I since I have been lurking on this forum for several weeks totaling probably over 24 hours?).

I have only own three cars myself (not the wife). They have all been Toyotas. I will probably start to pick up the frequency of buying. I still own a '97 4Runner which was an everyday car but now is a dedicated farm vehicle. I beat the hell out of that thing with no loving but it keeps on ticking. I bought a Tundra Rock Warrior package in 2010 (first year?). I was on the fence of whether or not to switch out the cloth seats with leather until I learned that the exact truck I was buying was on display at the Bristol Motor Speedway. Considering it seats 162,000 plus there were a lot more than that there over the weekend. I guessed that probably 5-10,000 sweaty asses sat in that exact truck. Decision to redo in leather was not difficult.

    Bought Tacoma Pro today.

    Came from an 09 Ranger.

That truck was great until a snowball of problems followed consecutively after another, prompting me to get the Tacoma.

    No regrets so far.

It’s a primary and I have young kids... MT is a deal breaker. I’m already thinking about trading it in when the new tundra comes out. I think part of my issue is I came from a 5.6L v8. Maybe I’m just used to the extra power.

I could understand you being used to a V8. All of Toyota’s recent redesigns have been great imo so I don’t expect anything less from the new tundra. Just out of curiosity what does having young kids have to do with a MT? I have 2 little boys and a MT and do t have any issues.
