It would be fair enough for Toyota to pay back people’s warranty in full if they don’t comply with their part of the deal? Technically you paid already for this type of warranty service and they are denying what you already paid?? Seems like funny business to me!

Every dealer has leeway to make judgement calls. Yours did and his didn't.
If a customer came to me wanting a $10K warranty, and we both know they screwed it up, but they were getting ready to place a $500K order, damn straight I grant warranty. Then it's called a sales concession lol not warranty.

I have an OEM Pro Grille and garnish, with stock suspension. The dealer installed new sensor and calibrated it with no foam shroud over it. They didn't say a word about my grille.

Toyota warranties their autos as designed and delivered from the factory. If a mod causes a safety item to potentially not perform as designed, why would they fix something that can't be fixed? Toyota doesn't want owners bringing their modded trucks in to have the recall performed only for the owners to leave thinking that it will work in spite of the mods.

You can modify it all you want. It's yours. Do so at your own risk tho. They can deny warranty if they feel your mods influenced performance. Not what you think, what they think.
And by modding the grille and height of sensor, Toyota is not responsible for the performance of their TSS. Just like doing a CMC and then getting into an accident where the brake rotor came into the cab through the floor. It would be all on you man.

No you didn't pay anything unless you got an extended warranty. You can't refund what you didn't get.

I understand all points of view, I have an OEM Pro Grille/garnish not install as of yet, so I don’t have a problem getting the recall done and install the grille later. I feel for others that the only mod they have is the grille and experiencing a pushback from the dealership.

Good thing I still have my old grille!! I could always switch it out, take it in, and then switch it back, lol

That is the ticket. For suspension as well. It is the reason I just bought a trd pro suspension, not Kings or Icon. Trucks new, I dont want to hear any crap about voiding warranty.
I want raptor lights, but Im not dealing with this pro grille issue either on my Sport. Sheesh.

They can still deny you if they want on the same basis. Your truck did not come from the factory with that suspension. The design, programming, testing and certification of the TSS on your truck was for the stock suspension and stock grill. Changing one or more of those changes the parameters that can affect operation of the system. How much, I don’t know, but obviously Toyota feels that it can be enough of a change that they don’t want the liability that could result from them reprogramming it in a non-factory configuration.

All this recall is for is to smear silicone on the side of the sensor to prevent water intrusion. If it’s not having an issue I wouldn’t worry about it. However by law Toyota still is required to perform the recall per NHTSA, mods don’t make a difference because it’s not a warranty claim.

If you change the height and thus the angle the TSS uses, Toyota has the right to refuse to touch it. Sure it’s a safety issue, but by modding the vehicle you changed it from what Toyota R&D designed, tested, and validated to work properly. If it malfunctions on a lifted vehicle, I can guarantee they can provide data to support the malfunction was due to the modifications from stock.

If Toyota supports a modified vehicle with a safety recall, a court could easily state that Toyota touching it leaves them responsible for making sure it is accurate. If the vehicle is different than stock, they have no way of doing so.

All I know is if I get flak on a sr/5 grill on my sport- I’ll tell them to change the setting For the pcm reset to off so when I turn it off it stays off. Problem solved, for me at least.

I’ve had them deny a warranty repair because my taco was lifted, all it was, was a little plastic blower fan in the A/C that needed to be placed and they denied fixing it because they said since it was lifted it voided the warranty on the truck, a little more arguing and I got them to fix it for free. I just had to push back a little.

It’s well known that lifting your truck trashes the AC blower fan. It also ruins your radio reception and your seatbelt release buttons.
