Just got the call! First bedroom is ready to stain. Waiting on toilets to get into HD so the plumber can finish today instead of tomorrow. They've been shipping from Westfield MA since 1pm yesterday. For those outside the area, that's a 3 hour drive max with lots of accidents, so hopefully those show up soon or otherwise they will have to wait until tomorrow.

While I agree with Drew on the flares leaving marks in the paint, or rust issues later on, I think they would look great on the truck!

Here's a topic no one ever thought they'd see on a truck forum... does anyone know anything about sewing machines? I need something to sew fairly thick exterior vinyl. Can I do this with a standard sewing machine?

I’m not an expert by any means but the simple/standard machines would likely have a hard time with a thick vinyl material. Do you have any of the material now? If you get me a sample or tell me what the material is I could try it for you.

I would see if you can swap the needles out to a thicker needle. If the machine will physically accept the thickness of the material, it should punch through it as long as the needle doesn't snap. Vinyl isn't too hard of a material to sew, if it were leather, that may be a different story. Not all machines are created equally either so a cheap, down and dirty machine with the same specs as a higher end machine may yield different results.

The vinyl arrives this Thursday. Thank you, I'll let you know. I may be borrowing a buddies machine this weekend.

Yeah and like @Pugga said, if you can swap to a thicker needle diameter, that’s even better.

And if none of theirs work, I have a Speedy Stitcher that I bought for boot repairs that works well on leather and thick vinyl, but is time-consuming.

Yep, and if you start now, you might have a seat done by the end of the summer!

Basically. Works great on shoes, but I sure as hell wouldn't want to reupholster a couch with it.

Actually it's just my boat bolsters which consists of about 8 straight stitches that are only about 11 inches long. The main part gets wrapped the same way carpet does on wood, it gets stapled on the back side of the bolster core which is 1/2" thick plastic. I only have to recreate the parts that cover the hole where the rivets go through on each end.

Here's a picture of the bolster, on the right you can see the little "band" that is a "cover" for the hole/rivet:

The ones in back are a little more complicated but not much. They are just 14 feet long, so the pieces have to get stitched together.

    Okay I got a ?

We need a heat/cool thermostat. I do not want a programmable complicated one, looking for simple that I can work when I'm stumbling around in the morning. I do however like the old mercury filled turn style ones. I have been looking for some and Honeywell still makes 2. One is back lit and digital and ones isn't. They have so/so reviews with the digital version getting hammered, which doesn't inspire confidence.

Who else makes something similar? If all else fails there are some cheap alternatives but wanted to see if anyone had any ideas.
