TRD/ Magnuson 4.0 Supercharger Tips, Tricks, and Mods

I'm on my 3rd auto trans. Hopefully it last. Upgraded valve body and level 10 torque converter now. Feels great.

 

What’s failing in the trans?

 

First transmission went out at a 101k I think it was the clutch pack. It would go into gear and then it will slip and catch again. When I put it in park it was still in reverse and when I put it in reverse it was in Drive. Second transmission my flexplate shredded and messed up the pump assembly.

 

If you ever have to rebuild it, Raybestos makes higher torque rated clutch packs.

 

For those doing fuel pumps please search here for the info on improving the urd fuel pump kit. Pulling a tank on these trucks is only fun the first time.

 

Do you think a trans rebuild is a shop only mission?

 

Unless you have all of the proper tools and instructions, yes.

 

I heard the 4X4 transmission jobs are NOT fun even if you have a full on automotive lift @White lightning boosted

 

I had a lift and it wasn’t bad. The URD headers make the starter kind of in the way a bit getting to the flywheel bolts. Long extension with a wobble socket made it pretty easy though.

 

Yeah. I'll probably just buy a built one but if I could find a core trans to build I'd consider it.

I moved the input to the relay to an ignition only wire. Only runs when the engine is on. The wire that Magnuson tells you to use is the same one that power up to activate the leak detection pump.

 

If and when my trans ever craps out, I would go the more aggressive clutch packs, the trans go valve body rebuild kit and the ratiotek kit all in one go.

Did you move yours to a pin that is still under the fuse box? If you did, can you send some info on where you relocated it to? I've been wanting to do a relocate since I installed the wire and saw how it functioned.

I ran a wire inside the cab to the fuse box inside. There's probably a wire in the engine bay somewhere, but at the time I did it, the truck had a dead battery after sitting for a week while I was on vacation and I was pissed at myself for not addressing it BEFORE there was a problem. I did a quick check at the engine room fuse box for an ignition only wire and didn't find one. It was easier to just run a wire inside the cab, than sit there searching for longer.

 

For those that have the foglight anytime mod like myself theres the wire in the tiny fuse box in the engine bay that's ignition switched power. I was going to run my solenoid off it soon.

 

I actually have that mod.. that would be a perfect spot to run the pump if it actually only turns on with the car in run mode!

 

Random question but what's a ballpark figure for crank horsepower and wheel horsepower for one of our trucks with a 2.5 pulley (going to 2.3 soon)? Has anyone dyno'd?

 

The circuit is active in ACC, so the pump would run whenever the keys are in the ignition with accessory power.
