I heard there is some good riding up there. Was supposed to go a few weeks ago, but our plans fell through.

We just did part of the stripe rock trail and all of geowatts. We wanted to do more of stripe rock but we ran into a rather deep seasonal stream. Geowatts was fun with the exception of climbing over the erosion prevention logs.

We planned to do tea kettle but the upper portion is still under snow.

There are not a ton of trails and they were not really built with mountain biking in mind, but with that said my wife and I enjoyed them with our beginner/intermediate level of skills.

BKXC on YouTube did a lot the past two years, I think he's got some videos outlining how he packs up his bike. Might be worth checking out.

I believe SethsBikeHacks has done the same. Including a GoPro inside of his bike bag looking through a small hole while on a flight to see how it was handled.

Yeah I saw that one, air services definitely don't handle cargo marked as "fragile" well. About 10 years back a guy up here in Canada made a song that got huge about Air Canada trashing one of his sentimental and expensive guitars.

Wait, wasn’t that guy in the US, and it was about United? I suspect that happens a lot (damaged guitars, though not necessarily with songs written about them).

Just following up on this, did the Yakima Frontloaders work with the Voodoo Cross Bars as I am going with the same setup.

    Thanks!

Hopefully you're talking about the part describing the technique of bolt w/ socket and not the part about NOT using a star nut in a carbon steerer tube...

    If so... pretty straightforward...

    1. Find a deep well socket that will just fit inside the internal diameter of your steerer tube with as little clearance as possible to the walls.
    2. Find a bolt whose head fits that socket's size and has the M6x1.0 thread pitch that is long enough to thread into the star fangled nut while sitting in the well of the socket.
    3. Clamp your fork in a vise (carefully so as not to mar the outer steerer tube walls) if it's not already installed on the bike
    4. Thread your bolt into the SFN (Star Fangled Nut) and gently tap it into the steerer tube with the outwardly curved side facing down.
    5. Once both flanges of the SFN are inside the tube, place the socket over the bolt and against the upper flange of the SFN to maintain an even level of force on all surfaces. Set the steerer nut to a depth of 15mm or 9/16" to all upper flange edges of the SFN.
    6. Remove socket, unthread the bolt, and install on bike as planned.

Thanks fellas. I picked up a Thule RoundTrip Pro XT for the trip. Pretty Sweet, has a cool integrated stand and is really nicely built with smart features. Spendy though...
My bike barely fits. It's long though, with a wheelsbase of 1208 and 29" wheels. I had to rotate the fork, and it just barely fits.
Made a list of bikes stuff I may need: Tool kit, Brake pads, Cable, Housing, Bleed kit, Derailleur hangers (2), Derailleur, Chain, Tubes, Tires (2), Rags, Fork fluid, Chain lube, Chain, Brush, Power links, Grease.

Any other ideas? I'd like to be as self-reliant as possible since I have no idea if I'll find spares and specific things I need where I'll be.

It's race season! My first race is this weekend. I will be riding the Quick Six Enduro is Roswell, GA. Not nearly as intense as most races but it's a well-organized event that's a pleasure to race

Where is everyone riding this weekend?

I raced the Bootlegger 60 mile in Lenoir this past weekend and won the singlespeed category... though I STRONGLY recommend one does not completely rebuild a bike from the ground up two days before a race, forget to bleed the brakes and believe shit won't go wrong... I had ZERO front brake for the entire race and was crossing fingers & toes that my rear brakes held on some very gnarly chunky gravel descents!

    Bootlegger_60.jpg

I'll be racing the Saluda Roubaix 40+ category this coming Sunday on the Moots... never having entered it before; I don't foresee a repeat of this past weekend.

Sounds like you were extra-pinned in the turns

But congrats on the W, I'm still searching for an elusive podium position.
