What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

End of the day, if it gets you out there riding, it's the right bike.. so long as you don't wind up impaled on cheap bars or the like.

My son started talking about wanting to get into cycling a few months back. I made him promise NOT to buy a bike at a big-box store. Then I started trolling Craigslist and the Internet at large for something reasonable for him. When we saw the GT Karakoram, that was pretty much the end of the hunt.

 

Pinkbike. That's where I get a lot of stuff.

 

Yeah, just discovered it. A bit late, oh well. Maybe I will find a decent price on a 1" threaded steerer tube suspension fork- my white Caloi rigid could use some sproingy goodness up front.

Broke the passenger quarter window lock assembly this morning.... clipping it back in and just snapped on me.

"No worries, cheap fix"... $45 part. God damnit... haha.

 

Did the whole lock break or the little piece that connects the window to the lock?

 

Just the little piece. Can you remove the pin and just replace the little arm thing?

You have a 2003, so it will be a lot harder and more expensive to convert. The 2003/2004 5VZ has the ETCS-I electronic throttle system which means you can only use 2003/2004 transmissions with the ETCS-I system. That or you can do a valve body or output shaft swap.

1995-2002 is much easier since it’s a mechanical kickdown cable. All you have to do is swap the correct transmission and drivetrain in.

I paid around $1,500 — however for a 2003/2004 you’re going to be paying more for that special ETCS-I transmission unless you do those aforementioned modifications.

It's a pretty easy job.

 

Just got done putting new pads and rotors on the front of my 98 2wd. Done in the driveway. Really could use some concrete.

 

I feel you, I have an old driveway that was built in the mid 1900s and hasn't evidently been restored or repaired much since then. It's concrete but has a gravel strip going down the middle of it which makes it a royal pain to work underneath the truck on. One time the wheels on my floor jack broke down into the concrete about 2" while lifting the truck, scared the crap out of me.

I think the point he's making is that a 2500lb winch is way too light for these trucks, typically you want to pick a winch with a capacity that's about 2x that of the weight of your truck (some say 1.5x).

So say you have a 4500lb truck, you want a 9000lb winch

A 2500lb winch is for ATVs I think
